Christopher Reeve's co-star in Smallville, John Glover, has come forward to defend The Flash's controversial inclusion of Reeve as Superman. This decision, which involved resurrecting deceased actors for a multiverse sequence, has sparked an ongoing debate among fans. Many were put off by the choice to bring back deceased actors and criticized the subpar CGI used to recreate their appearances. Despite the backlash, Glover took to Twitter to support The Flash's decision to feature Reeve and others, citing his personal experience working with Reeve on Smallville and in various plays.

Why Christopher Reeve's The Flash Cameo Was So Controversial

Glover suggests that Reeve's adoration for Superman motivated his desire to be involved in The Flash. This affection for Clark Kent led him to portray Dr. Swann on Smallville, where he had the opportunity to interact with Tom Welling's portrayal of a young Clark Kent. Glover concludes by speculating that Reeve's family or estate may have approved the cameo, as Reeve thoroughly enjoyed supporting the larger superhero universe.

Reeve's The Flash cameo caused significant controversy for a few reasons. The primary reason behind the backlash revolves around the morality of the situation. Through the utilization of CGI, Reeve, George Reeves, and Adam West, who have all passed away, were brought back to life for brief appearances in The Flash. What has fueled the outrage is the lack of evidence suggesting that The Flash sought permission from the actors' families or estates to use their likenesses in the movie. Strangely enough, the film also chose to utilize CGI for actors who are still alive.
