Marvel's Spider-Man 2 takes the alternate Spidey costumes to a whole new level. Building upon the first game's already impressive collection, this sequel offers a staggering 47 unique Spidey suits for players to choose from. These suits span across various Spider-Man mediums, including comics, movies, and TV shows.
In Marvel's Spider-Man 2, both Miles Morales and Peter Parker are spoiled for choice when it comes to their suit selection. Not only do they have an abundance of suits to pick from, but some even feature multiple color variations, adding even more customization options.
Just like its predecessor, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 draws inspiration from the extensive comic histories of both heroes. These suits truly come to life on-screen, surpassing their appearances on the page. However, the game also introduces its own original suits, which offer a mixed bag of designs. The standout suits often blend original concepts with classic comic suit elements, a formula that shines brilliantly in Peter Parker's final story outfit.
Peter Parker's Anti-Venom Suit Explained
The final act of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 begins as Peter Parker, accompanied by his loyal companion Miles Morales, successfully removes the Symbiote suit. However, the suit eventually finds a new host and transforms into Venom. Out in the city, Venom devises a plan to conquer New York by infecting its citizens with the Symbiote, forming a massive collective consciousness. As a result of the prolonged bonding with the Symbiote, a part of Peter Parker's mind becomes ensnared within the hive mind. The only way to free him is by allowing Mr. Negative to channel his Lightforce energy into Peter's mind.
This clash between the Symbiote and Mr. Negative's Lightforce energy grants Peter Parker new powers as Anti-Venom. His abilities are embodied in a sleek white suit adorned with a black spider emblem on the front and back, as well as black lenses. By harnessing the residual energy of Mr. Negative, Peter gains the capacity to utilize the Lightforce for various Anti-Venom attacks. These attacks prove to be significantly more effective in weakening Symbiote adversaries compared to regular assaults. Strikingly, these powers persist even after the conclusion of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's narrative. Peter can continue to utilize the Anti-Venom suit and its abilities while freely exploring the open world once the credits roll.
The concept of the Anti-Venom suit is not unfamiliar to loyal Spider-Man comic readers. It first appeared in the 2008 New Ways to Die comic run, specifically The Amazing Spider-Man #568-573. During this storyline, Eddie Brock learns about his incurable cancer, but is miraculously cured after encountering Martin Li at a soup kitchen. However, Brock is then attacked by the Scorpion, who had obtained the Venom Symbiote after Brock auctioned it off. The Venom Symbiote attempts to abandon Scorpion and instead bonds with Brock, resulting in a new white Symbiote-like suit called Anti-Venom.
Although the origins of the Anti-Venom suit in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 are similar to the comics, it actually bears a closer resemblance to the more recent Agent Anti-Venom suit seen in the Venom Inc. comic run. In this storyline, Flash Thompson once again becomes bonded to the Venom Symbiote, transforming into Agent Venom. However, Spider-Man administers an Anti-Venom serum to Thompson, transforming him into Agent Anti-Venom. This new suit features a stark white appearance with black lenses and a black spider logo, which is comparable to the version of Anti-Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is available now exclusively for PS5.
