Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White have undeniable chemistry on The Bear, but their connection goes beyond what we see on screen.
In a Vanity Fair cover story published online on May 21, the costars expressed their admiration for each other's close working relationship. White, 33, shared, "We really enjoy each other in life, on camera and off camera. I have a tremendous amount of respect for her as a person, but also as an artist." He hopes that their strong bond as friends shines through in their characters, Carmy and Sydney.
"Syd always manages to bring something unique to Carmy, and it usually turns out well," he mentioned. "I also believe Ayo is often right."
Edebiri, 28, shared her view on their close bond. "Work can be quite personal, emotional, and intimate," she said. "Especially in creative fields, there's a sense of passion that comes along with it."
The actress jokingly mentioned, "And let's not forget about those beautiful blue eyes. They really stand out, don't they? Those are the kind of eyes you can't help but admire."
The viewers of The Bear are divided on whether Carmy and Sydney's relationship should evolve from friendship to romance in the upcoming season. The show is scheduled to make a return in June. Some fans have become fixated on their real-life friendship. Recently, social media was abuzz with a video of the cast attending a Chicago Cubs game. White and Edebiri were seen sitting next to each other, and at one point, he was captured gently rubbing her back.

Since the show premiered in 2022, the costars have been asked some uncomfortable questions about their relationship offscreen. At one point, when White appeared in a steamy Calvin Klein ad, Edebiri couldn't escape questions about it at the Golden Globe Awards.
During a red carpet interview with Access in January, Edebiri playfully responded to a NSFW picture of White by saying, "That’s my boy, you know what I mean? I do feel like I want people to understand he’s my coworker."
The Bear had a successful night at the awards show. They were celebrating with Extra backstage when the topic of Calvin Klein came up again.
A reporter started with a serious question for them. Edebiri could be heard whispering, "I think I know what it is."
An enlarged photo from White’s underwear shoot was shown on camera, and Edebiri tried to change the subject. She jokingly said, "I'm saving this for my son! He's my boy," and added, "We're at a work event, remember!"
As for what lies ahead for Carmy and Sydney's relationship, Edebiri has expressed her frustration with fans' theories about a possible romance in the future.
"It's not something we actively consider when creating the show," she explained to The Hollywood Reporter in the past. She acknowledged that it may be a common theme in the show's culture. However, she expressed doubt that viewers will be satisfied with the outcome. She finds it exciting to showcase a dynamic on screen that is not romantic, yet still exudes a sense of tension and allure.
Carmy explored a relationship with his childhood friend Claire (Molly Gordon) in season 2. However, Edebiri doesn’t believe the character is supposed to have a love story.
According to Edebiri, "It’s TV, do you want to see Walter White go to therapy and then reunite with his family?" She jokingly added, "I love this little f—ked up guy in the kitchen."
