All American has returned for season 6 — and viewers are catching back up with characters after a nearly 2-year time jump.

Warning: Spoilers Below for the season 6 premiere of All American.

The CW series premiered in 2018 and follows the story of Spencer James, a talented high school football player from Crenshaw. He is recruited by Beverly Hills coach Billy Baker and ends up living with Billy and his family to protect his transfer permit. Spencer navigates the challenges of balancing football, relationships, friendships, and his double life. The show also features Samantha Logan, Michael Evans Behling, Greta Onieogou, Bre-Z, Cody Christian, and Monet Mazur.

Season 5 of the teen drama sees the characters transitioning to college, where they encounter new obstacles. These challenges include the unexpected death of Billy, which leads to fractures in previously strong relationships.

In the season 5 finale, Spencer and Olivia (Logan), Billy's daughter, reconnect before she leaves for London for three months. Despite having to spend more time apart than planned, the pair keep their promise to wait for each other in season 6.

According to Ezra in a March interview with Deadline, the couple has faced challenges and changes during their time apart. Being on separate continents has influenced them, and they will have to navigate the impact of these changes as they come back together.

Logan believes that fans will be happy with the way things unfold in the upcoming season. She shared, "The season has been enjoyable as we have been eagerly waiting to see Spencer and Olivia together for quite some time. It always felt like there were obstacles in their way. However, in this season, we will witness them coming together as new and improved versions of themselves. While there may be some challenges along the way, I believe we will ultimately witness their relationship evolve into something truly beautiful."

Jordan (Behling) and Layla (Oniegou) are currently navigating their engagement and are in the process of building a strong foundation for their future as a couple. Showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll describes them as working towards becoming a "new family unit."

Carroll shared that Jordan is a true romantic at heart, who fully commits to a relationship once he falls in love. He is known for diving in headfirst, giving his all to the person he cares about. The passing of his father was a major event in his life, and Layla's unwavering support during this difficult time only deepened their connection. Despite already having a strong bond, facing challenges together has only strengthened their relationship. Carroll ponders, "What else can I throw at them that they can't handle together?"

She kept on saying, "When getting married, the true importance of it, coupled with his sister's departure from town. The family dynamics are changing, and Layla is now a part of that new family structure. For Jordan, it just feels right."

Spencer James

Spencer, now a junior in college, has been performing exceptionally well on the field with Coach Boone's guidance. His outstanding performance has put him in the running for the Heisman trophy and made him eligible for the NFL draft. However, there may be some tension brewing between him and his quarterback, Jordan.

Olivia Baker

Outside of sports, Spencer and Olivia reconnect after she chooses to stay in London for another year. When Olivia comes home early, she walks in on a surprise party that Spencer had organized for her. The two have some awkward moments at first but eventually decide to stay together.

Olivia finally comes back home after being away for over a year, missing Spencer for almost 365 days. Originally planning to return after three months, she extended her stay to discover and embrace her transformed self.

Even though Olivia reassures Spencer of her love for him, messages from her friends in London suggest she might be considering a return to the U.K. sooner than expected.

Jordan Baker

Jordan and Spencer have played key roles in reviving the GAU program, leading to both of them becoming eligible for the NFL draft. Despite their strong friendship, Jordan is finding it challenging to deal with Spencer receiving more attention while he starts to fade into the background. The premiere hints at potential tension between the two friends as their paths diverge in the future.

In Jordan's personal life, he and Layla remain happily engaged. However, Jordan finds it challenging when Layla hesitates to share her struggles with him. This difficulty is further complicated by Layla's new business partner, who is young, handsome, and wealthy.

Despite not being able to perform in her first concert after returning, she finds comfort in a slumber party organized by The Vortex.

Asher

Asher's life as a new dad revolves around balancing school, work, and taking care of baby AJ with Jaymee. As Jaymee starts a new job, Asher is left to handle the responsibilities at home, which proves to be challenging.
