Exploring SNL's Five-Timers Club: From Tom Hanks to Emma Stone and Beyond

Saturday Night Live has had numerous celebrity hosts over its nearly 50-year history, but only a few have become part of the exclusive Five-Timers Club. Tom Hanks was the first to join in 1990, followed by stars like Steve Martin, Danny DeVito, Drew Barrymore, Justin Timberlake, and Melissa McCarthy. Upon reaching this milestone, each member is gifted with the club's iconic velvet robe.

The show's hosts typically receive the honor, but a few musical guests, such as Paul Simon and Jack White, have appeared on the NBC sketch series five times or more. In February 2023, Jack White earned his Five-Timers robe alongside host Woody Harrelson. Scarlett Johansson, also a Five-Timer, made a special appearance to present Harrelson with his jacket, while cast member Kenan Thompson gave White his own.

Saturday Night Live has featured several celebrity hosts throughout its nearly 50-year run, but only a select few have joined the show’s coveted Five-Timers Club.

Tom Hanks was the founding member of the club when it was established in 1990. Other notable stars such as Steve Martin, Danny DeVito, Drew Barrymore, Justin Timberlake and Melissa McCarthy have also hosted SNL five or more times. Upon reaching this milestone, each member is awarded the club’s iconic velvet robe. The honor is typically given to hosts, but some musical guests like Paul Simon and Jack White have also reached this milestone on the NBC sketch series.

White achieved the milestone of hosting SNL for the fifth time in February 2023, alongside Woody Harrelson. Scarlett Johansson, also a Five-Timer, made a surprise appearance to present Harrelson with his robe, while Kenan Thompson did the same for White. The most recent addition to the Five-Timers Club is Emma Stone, who achieved this honor in December 2023 while co-hosting the show with Noah Kahan as the musical guest.
