Exploring Mark Wahlberg's Thoughts on the Uncharted 2 Film and Sully's Iconic Mustache
Mark Wahlberg confirms the upcoming Uncharted 2 movie, revealing an exciting script has been written and hints at Sully's iconic mustache playing a prominent role throughout
The 2022 Uncharted movie, featuring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, surpassed $400 million in global earnings, solidifying its place as one of the most successful video game adaptations to date. Despite Sony Pictures touting it as their next big franchise, a sequel has not yet been confirmed. Wahlberg mentioned in an interview with The Direct that a script has been penned, and there are ongoing efforts to develop the sequel with various ideas being discussed.
The first Uncharted movie script was penned by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the duo behind the original Iron Man, in collaboration with Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Whether any of them will be involved in a potential sequel remains unknown.
During the interview, Wahlberg focused extensively on his character Sully's mustache. According to him, the script for Uncharted 2 depicts Sully with a mustache throughout the entire film. In the original Uncharted movie, Wahlberg's Sully only acquires the character's iconic mustache at the very end.
"I dedicated a significant amount of time to growing it because, at one point, we attempted using a fake mustache and, I don't know, I just didn't feel confident enough to pull it off," he admitted.
Wahlberg expressed his willingness to reprise his role as Sully in a potential Uncharted sequel, as long as the movie surpasses the quality of the first installment.
Uncharted ranks as the fifth highest-grossing video game movie to date, following Rampage, Warcraft, Detective Pikachu, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, known for Zombieland and Venom. Meanwhile, fans anticipating the next Uncharted film will have to wait, but The Last of Us, another successful adaptation of a Naughty Dog game, is set to return for a second season on HBO in 2025.
