For his inaugural custom design as Louis Vuitton's men's creative director, Pharrell Williams created a stunning piece befitting royalty. Tasked with the challenge, the 50-year-old designer crafted a magnificent crystal catsuit exclusively for Beyoncé to showcase during the North American leg of her Renaissance tour.
In Instagram videos and photos posted on Sunday, July 30th, Williams discussed the thoroughly thought-out design process. Showing sketches and fabric adorned with jewels and metallic bees, Williams praised Beyoncé as a unique individual. "Beyoncé is truly special," Williams stated in the video. "Having known her as a person for a significant period of time, I feel like our connection goes beyond this lifetime."
Louis Vuitton (@louisvuitton) shared a post in which Williams expressed her intention for the piece. According to her, the aim was to provide her with something that enables her body to establish the blueprint, encompassing both its shape and form, which are essentially influenced by her spirit. Essentially, this piece not only celebrates her physical attributes, but also bestows upon her a sense of liberation.
The colors in the glittery piece serve to enhance its connection to someone with a royal spirit. Williams elaborated that every design element was carefully crafted to resonate with the essence of a genuine, extraordinary and influential individual.
The fashion house mentioned in social media posts that the one-piece attire was adorned with numerous hand-stitched crystal beads and black pearls, featuring a subtle black and silver Damier motif pattern. This was likely a reference to William's intention of giving a contemporary touch to the signature pattern, as seen in the spring/summer 2024 menswear collection. During the performance, Beyoncé complemented the outfit with glitzy glasses. Additionally, Louis Vuitton and Williams created custom pieces for Beyoncé's dancers and her daughter Blue Ivy, who has been accompanying her on the tour to perform "My Power."
Beyoncé started her series of performances in Stockholm on May 10th. The North American part of the tour will include visits to Chicago, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and her hometown of Houston. The tour will conclude in New Orleans on September 27th.
Along with Louis Vuitton, Beyoncé has worn outfits designed by Alexander McQueen, Balmain, David Koma, Loewe, and Mugler as she entertains her fans worldwide.
