Temtem stands as one of the most successful monster-taming games since Pokemon, offering a mature story and a deep gameplay experience that includes both PvE and PvP elements. The developers at Crema have worked hard to create a unique experience that deviates from the classic Pokemon formula, resulting in several points of departure. In an interview with Game Rant, Crema's Game Director Guillermo Andrades, Producer Mariana Irazu, and Art Director Cristina Jimenez revealed that the upcoming 1.5 patch will introduce Temtem's third Mythical creature and Umbra Tems.
Similar to shinies in Pokemon, Temtem features Lumas, which are monsters with special color palettes and effects compared to their original counterparts. These rare creatures have their own rules when it comes to stats, breeding, and more. Luma Tems are already difficult to find, with a 1 in 7,500 encounter rate without boosted odds. However, the newly revealed Umbras take rarity to the next level in multiple ways. Additionally, the new Lair and third Mythical in Temtem will significantly impact the current metagame, posing a challenging endeavor for all players.
Temtem Adds Third Mythical and Lair, Reveals Umbras in Patch 1.5
Temtem is widely recognized as one of the most difficult online multiplayer games. It lives up to this reputation by offering challenging battles in its campaign and a complex competitive scene for PvP enthusiasts. Even after completing the main campaign, players can take on challenging PvE content in the form of Lairs. These Lairs involve managing random number generation and battling against AI-controlled tamers who strategically use critters to counter the player's team. Lairs are both engaging and potentially rewarding. With the release of patch 1.5, a new Lair is introduced, featuring the third and final Mythical creature in the game, Galios. According to Jimenez, Galios is a being made entirely of space matter and possesses power over life and death. It is associated with the Doom status effect, which causes affected Temtem to be knocked out at the end of its counter. Players can unlock the new Mythical Lair and have the opportunity to encounter Galios after exploring the new Fiery Inferno area in the Airborne Archipelago. Temtem is featured as one of the Humble Choice games for July 2023, making it a great time to join the game before the start of Season 5 - Endless Night.
Galios is responsible for maintaining the floating archipelago and controlling the rotation of the Pansun plates. To reflect this, we decided to incorporate a space or galactic theme that aligns perfectly with Galios and its types. The Lair also embodies this idea, with the boss fight's final phase resembling a mesmerizing space vortex.
In addition to the third Mythical, the 1.5 patch brings another major surprise: Umbra Temtem are now a reality and are here to stay. Unlike Lumas, Umbra Tems are incredibly rare, with odds of encountering them at 1 in 75,000. These Temtem serve as the ultimate reward for dedicated players, as they have their own unique hunting methods separate from regular Lumas. Adding to the dark theme of the new Endless Night season, Umbras share a similar color palette and effects, making them distinct as a special type of Temtem.
Umbras, unlike Lumas, have perfect stats and all possible Egg Techniques for their species, making them battle-ready. As a result, they will be Soulbound, meaning they can only be accessed by their original tamer, and cannot be traded with other players. Andrades explained that the process of obtaining Umbra eggs is more complex compared to Lumas, but there are ways to work around it. Additionally, Umbras are infertile, so breeding between Umbra tems is not possible. However, it is still possible for a pair of Luma tems to have an Umbra offspring.
Patch 1.5, with its introduction of Umbras and various exciting features, serves as an excellent entry point for newcomers and a captivating update for seasoned players. Moreover, amidst the extensive transformations taking place within the game, Temtem offers valuable insights that the forthcoming Pokemon Gen 10 games could benefit from.
