Todd Garner, the producer of Mortal Kombat 2, has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes photo, showcasing a set from the highly anticipated film. The image offers a sneak peek at one of the intriguing stages that will feature in the sequel's new tournament. As Cole Young, portrayed by Lewis Tan, reunites with Earthrealm and Outworld fighters, the cast will also welcome Karl Urban, Tati Gabrielle, and Adeline Rudolph, who will bring beloved characters from the game's extensive roster to life. Garner took to his personal Twitter account to share this exciting update, providing fans with a glimpse into the current filming progress of Mortal Kombat 2.
In a recent tweet, Garner posted a new image simply titled "BTS." The accompanying photo showcases one of the monitors used on set, providing a glimpse of a scene from the upcoming sequel. Although the monitor displays are somewhat unclear and leave many questions unanswered, they reveal a mysterious solitary figure standing in a dimly lit room. The scene is enhanced by the intricate glass windows that allow beams of light to filter through.
Will Mortal Kombat 2 Take Audiences Beyond Earthrealm?
Mortal Kombat, which primarily takes place in Earthrealm, is about to venture into new territory in Mortal Kombat 2. This installment will delve into the extensive universe of the franchise, introducing us to fresh combatants from Outworld who are eager to join the tournament. Among these new characters are Jade and Kitana, both lethal assassins serving Outworld's emperor and notorious antagonist, Shao Khan. The role of Shao Khan will be portrayed by Martyn Ford.
Featuring Outworld's most dangerous warriors, Mortal Kombat 2's key cast members hint at a potential setting in Garner's post. One possibility is Shao Khan's reconstruction of the Temple/Cathedral seen in Mortal Kombat 3 and 9, tying it to one of the new characters. Additionally, the film will introduce Quan Chi, portrayed by Damon Herriman, a sorcerer with fortresses in both Outworld and the Netherrealm who is not aligned with Earthrealm or Outworld. With Joe Taslim reprising his role as Bi-Han/Sub-Zero, the image might reveal one of Quan Chi's palaces and hint at Bi-Han's resurrection.
Although Garner's images do not provide a conclusive answer, they do showcase the expansive scope of Mortal Kombat 2. While the film will focus on Cole's training with Johnny Cage, played by Urban, it will also delve deeper into the fighters of Outworld, potentially revealing new aspects of the realm. Fans will be delighted to see fan-favorites like Kitana introduced in the sequel, as it promises to explore the fighters of the previously unexplored realm.
