The highly anticipated fifth and final season of Stranger Things is currently being produced, and fans were recently treated to a chilling sneak peek. Taking to social media on September 28, the show's writers teased some scenes from the upcoming episodes.
"Hopefully, the studios will reach a fair agreement with SAG in the near future; otherwise, season 5 is not looking promising," read a tweet accompanied by an animated depiction of Joe Keery's beloved character, Steve Harrington. "This is a preview of a scene in episode 1, providing a sneak peek at season 5. We explicitly instructed Joe to perform it precisely as shown here."
Continuing with the surprises, the writers playfully commented on another visual featuring Charlie Heaton's character, Jonathan Byers, attempting to connect various wires with Steve's assistance. "They certainly didn't do Charlie any favors," the writers teased.
Production on season 5 is currently in progress after pausing due to the strikes initiated by WGA and SAG-AFTRA. In May, most TV and film productions in Hollywood halted filming as writers fought for equitable compensation following unsuccessful negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Following suit, the actors' union commenced an official strike two months later. In May, the creators of Stranger Things, Ross and Matt Duffer, expressed their inability to commence production during the strike in a tweet, emphasizing the importance of reaching a fair agreement and eagerly anticipating the return to work.
The WGA and AMPTP struck a deal earlier this month. Writers on different projects went back to work on Wednesday, September 27th, but filming for any new projects has been put on hold until SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP come to terms on a fresh contract. (Resumption of negotiations is scheduled for Monday, October 2nd.)
