The director of Secret Invasion, Ali Selim, has denied the rumor of a major Marvel Cinematic Universe character cameo in the series. Secret Invasion, streaming on Disney+, centers around Nick Fury, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson, who endeavors to thwart the Skrulls' plan to conquer Earth. The cast of Secret Invasion includes a mix of returning MCU actors and newcomers, but one speculated character will not be making an appearance alongside Fury. In an interview with SFX Magazine, Selim clarified that Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will not be featured in the series. The director expressed his preference for surprises within the story rather than cameos, stating that cameos are of lesser interest to him.
Why Fans Should Not Expect Many Cameos In Secret Invasion

Unfortunately, Marvel fans hoping for exciting appearances from the Avengers in the series will be let down as Secret Invasion does not include any of them. The focus of the story revolves around Nick Fury's solo mission to defeat the Skrulls and their leader, Gravik. Fury expressed valid concerns about the Skrulls possibly impersonating the Avengers if they were present, thus providing a storyline explanation for their absence. Don Cheadle's Rhodey is the most noteworthy character making an appearance in the series.
Given the constraints of its medium, Secret Invasion on Disney+ cannot maintain the same expansive storyline as the major Marvel Comics event it is based on. Budget limitations restrict the appearances of high-profile heroes, thus restricting the scope of the show.
Although it would have been exciting to see Secret Invasion include characters like the Avengers and Val from the MCU, the show remains intriguing by focusing on the personal bond between Fury and the Skrull invasion. It is Fury's own past failure to assist the Skrulls that ignites Gravik's thirst for revenge, making it fitting for Jackson's character to resolve the conflict. While Captain Marvel, portrayed by Brie Larson, would have been a logical addition due to her involvement, Fury's appearance in The Marvels could explain why Carol Danvers was unavailable to assist him during Secret Invasion.
