Exclusive: Patrick Stewart's Shocking Vision for Star Trek: Picard Finale & Surprising Future Movie Plans

Sir Patrick Stewart envisions an alternate conclusion for Star Trek: Picard, fueling his desire for another movie

Summary

Sir Patrick Stewart reveals his original idea for the ending of Star Trek: Picard, wanting to see a content and happy Jean-Luc Picard with a wife.

The suggested conclusion featured a picturesque moment set at Jean-Luc's vineyard, where a tender voice beckons him inside, and he gracefully becomes a part of history.

Stewart desires to create a Picard film and is actively encouraging Paramount to contemplate it, with a vision of expanding and enriching the Star Trek: Picard universe.

In his upcoming memoir, "Making It So," Sir Patrick Stewart reveals his desire for a new movie to serve as the ending for Jean-Luc Picard's story in Star Trek: Picard. Despite the success of the show's third season, Stewart is disappointed that his original vision was never realized. An excerpt from "Making It So," published by Time, provides Stewart's personal account of his commitment to Star Trek: Picard and the evolution of the series over its three seasons. Surprisingly, Stewart's desired ending for Picard differs greatly from the jovial poker game featured in the finale with the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Read the quote from "Making It So" below.

The third season was a grand success, with a stunning conclusion. However, the final sequence, depicting the crew reuniting around a table with their drinks and sharing a heartfelt toast, was not the original intended ending. Prior to wrapping up the series, I approached the writers with my unique concept.

"I have a different vision for the show's finale," I expressed to them. "I envision a serene Jean-Luc, content with his circumstances. No longer plagued by anxiety, frenzy, or melancholy. And to achieve this, I believe it necessitates the introduction of a wife into the equation."

The distinction between Jean-Luc and myself has become increasingly indistinct. If I have discovered genuine love, shouldn't he as well?

The writers have crafted a beautiful scene. The setting is Jean-Luc's vineyard at dusk. With his back turned towards us, he admires the breathtaking scenery, accompanied by his loyal dog.

Afterwards, an affectionate female voice is heard off-screen, calling out to Jean-Luc: "Supper's ready!"

Whose voice is it? Beverly Crusher's? Laris's? Or someone unfamiliar? The identification remains unclear. However, Sunny was prepared to capture and record the dialogue.

Heeding his wife’s call, Jean-Luc turns around, says to his dog, “C’mon, boy,” and heads inside. Dusk fades to night, and Picard fades into history.

Patrick Stewart Wants One More Picard Movie

In "Making It So," Patrick Stewart reveals the disappointment he faced when his vision of filming a climactic scene with Jean-Luc Picard and his loyal canine companion, Number One, was discarded by the studio due to financial concerns and their belief that it was unnecessary. However, Stewart remains optimistic about the future of Jean-Luc's narrative, stating that while it may be "most probably" concluded, never say never. Consequently, he is gently advocating for Paramount to grant permission for a solitary Picard movie, with Jonathan Frakes as its director.

Stewart's idea for a Star Trek: Picard movie is intriguing and offers a chance to further expand and deepen the universe we have come to know in the series. It could serve as a conclusion for characters like Soji, Elnor, and Dr. Agnes Jurati, who were not explored in season 3 of Picard. The involvement of Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, and LeVar Burton would add excitement for fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Whether Patrick Stewart's desired movie will come to fruition remains uncertain, but it's worth noting that luck often favors Jean-Luc Picard.

"Making It So" by Sir Patrick Stewart will be released in bookstores and online retailers on October 3rd.
