This supplementary roster consists of classic versions of Mortal Kombat characters, including those that may not necessarily play a role in Mortal Kombat 1's main storyline.

Reddit user bac736, who has a track record of accurately revealing Mortal Kombat 1 characters before their official confirmation, claims to have caught a glimpse of Shujinko in an intriguing image. The image featured a silhouette of Shujinko with a mysterious question mark in front. Despite a lack of additional information and the inability to disclose their source, bac736 has shared this image with the moderators of r/MortalKombat, who believe it to be genuine.

Shujinko first appeared in the game Mortal Kombat: Deception in 2004. He became the new protagonist after Liu Kang's death in the previous game. However, he was only playable in Deception's Konquest mode. In the game, he is deceived into bringing forth the Dragon King Onaga and is then tasked with defeating him in the climax of the mode. Shujinko later appears in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon as an old man burdened with guilt for his role in Onaga's return. This would be the last time players could control him. He does make a final cameo appearance in Cassie Cage's ladder ending in Mortal Kombat X.

Initially, fans were not pleased with Shujinko for replacing beloved heroes like Liu Kang and Raiden from the original Mortal Kombat game in the 2000s. However, over time, he began to be appreciated more. There are rumors and hints of his return as a cameo fighter in the first Mortal Kombat game, but it is uncertain for now. There is a possibility that he might appear during the Kombat Kast livestream happening later this week, although this should be taken with caution.
