Elm Street Stars Seek Sequel Return: Mark Patton and Kim Myers express interest in reprising their iconic roles, fueling Hollywood's fascination with legacy characters

Two of the actors from A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge expressed their interest in returning for another installment in the horror franchise. Following the success of Wes Craven's original film, New Line Cinema wasted no time in developing a sequel. Despite mixed to negative reviews upon its release, Freddy's Revenge has gained a cult following in recent years, particularly within the horror and LGBTQ+ communities.

During a panel at Mad Monster Party Arizona, Kim Myers and Mark Patton, who played Lisa and Jesse in the film, were asked if they would consider returning for a future movie, even in a cameo role. Both actors showed great enthusiasm about reprising their characters, with Patton expressing his belief in the continuation of the franchise. Find their complete comments below.

Kim Myers: I would definitely be willing to do it. In the past, I may not have had the same sentiment, but witnessing the profound effect our film and similar films have on our supporters, like all of you, has been truly astounding. It would be a remarkable experience, and I would love to explore the possibilities. So yes, without a doubt, I would be on board to see where it leads.

Mark Patton: I share the same sentiment, and I strongly believe these films will certainly be made considering their immense financial success. With numerous investors in Los Angeles, it's unlikely they will remain untouched for long.

Hollywood’s Obsession With Legacy Characters

Studios have heavily relied on nostalgia over the past decade to generate interest in new films from old franchises. This approach has resulted in the creation of "requels," which revitalize the franchise for a modern audience by reintroducing beloved characters. Blumhouse successfully utilized this strategy by featuring Laurie Strode in David Gordon Green's Halloween trilogy, and Paramount followed suit with Sidney Prescott in the upcoming 2022 film Scream.

Although there are no concrete details for another Nightmare on Elm Street project, Heather Langenkamp, who portrayed Nancy Thompson in three Freddy movies, has expressed her desire to return for another film. While many fans would be thrilled to see Langenkamp reprise her role, it may be more effective to completely reboot the franchise rather than relying on legacy characters, especially since it is unlikely that Robert Englund will reprise his role as Freddy.

Will Mark Patton & Kim Myers Return to Elm Street?

Although A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge is now more favorably regarded than in 1985, it is unlikely that both Lisa and Jesse will make an appearance in a future Nightmare on Elm Street film. The future of Freddy is currently uncertain, and if a new movie were to bring back legacy characters, it would most likely focus on Langenkamp's Nancy or characters from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors for the requel. Reintroducing Jesse and Lisa may not align with the original Nightmare on Elm Street continuity, but the filmmakers could consider casting Myers and/or Patton in different roles for a complete reboot. Both actors are still active, and it would be a nostalgic nod to see them interact with Freddy Krueger again after almost four decades.
