Summary
Liam Cunningham has reached out to Kit Harington about appearing in the Jon Snow spinoff series, but he never heard back.
House of the Dragon is currently the only Game of Thrones spinoff that has been realized, while other spinoffs have been announced and are in different stages of development.
The fate of the Jon Snow spinoff remains uncertain, as HBO has yet to confirm if it will be given the green light. The success of the show will heavily rely on the quality of its concept and scripts.
Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham recently discussed the potential return of his character, Davos, in the upcoming Jon Snow spinoff series. The highly popular TV show, based on George R.R. Martin's novels, aired from 2011 to 2019. Several spinoff series have been announced since then, including a Jon Snow sequel series that was mentioned in August of last year.
Despite the lack of information regarding the Jon Snow spinoff, Cunningham revealed in an interview with Den of Geek that he has reached out to Kit Harington, who portrays Jon Snow, about the possibility of appearing in the sequel show. Unfortunately for fans of Davos, it appears that the character may not be included in the current plans for the story.
“After sending [Kit] a text message saying, ‘Better Call Davos,’ I haven’t received a response. It seems like you might be more informed than I am. I sincerely wish the best to everyone involved, and if the payment is substantial, I might consider making an appearance once more!”
Will The Game Of Thrones Jon Snow Spinoff Actually Happen?
House of the Dragon is the sole Game of Thrones spinoff that has materialized thus far. Among the several spinoffs announced, including The Sea Snake, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, and Ten Thousand Ships, as well as multiple animated shows, most are seemingly in their initial phases of development. However, progress is unquestionably at a standstill presently due to the ongoing WGA strikes.
The announcement of development for a Jon Snow spinoff does not guarantee that the series will definitely happen. Earlier this year, HBO Drama Chief Francesca Orsi mentioned that it is still uncertain if the show will receive approval to move forward.
Therefore, whether or not the Jon Snow spinoff becomes a reality depends on ensuring that the concept and scripts meet a certain level of quality, which hasn't been achieved yet. Although House of the Dragon may not reach the same level as Game of Thrones in its prime, it has received positive reviews and attracted a large audience. This puts additional pressure on HBO to carefully expand Martin's fantasy world.
