The midseason finale of Quantum Leap left us with numerous questions, and the cast is now dropping hints about what we can expect in season 2. Before the shocking December 13 episode, Ernie Hudson, Nanrisa Lee, and Mason Alexander Park shared exclusive insights with us about the differences between the first and second seasons of the NBC series.

"I found it fascinating to witness the real-time feedback [for season 1] as we were preparing to film the second season. The anticipation leading up to the season finale was thrilling, especially with so many significant story developments that really raised the stakes," shared Park, 28. "As we develop season 2, we're able to discuss how it feels even grander and we've managed to make the show even more intense and insane."

While Park has relished seeing viewers' reactions as the season unfolded, Lee, 43, has preferred to take a more detached approach.

"We were absolutely thrilled to be part of the reception and really enjoyed the show. It was a fantastic experience filming the first season and I personally don't pay much attention to criticism or online forums. When you're working on the show, there's no time for that. It felt like the perfect environment to focus on our work and stay out of trouble."

The revival of the ‘90s science-fiction series, Quantum Leap, centers around Ben as he unexpectedly travels through time and becomes stranded in the past. Supported by his ex, Addison, and the Quantum Leap team, Ben sets out to unravel the mystery behind his unintended alterations to history.

In the midseason finale on Wednesday, a major twist was introduced when Tom (played by Peter Gadiot), Addison's new boyfriend and the new leader of the Quantum Leap team, hinted at a possible way to bring Ben back to the present. Keep reading to find out what Hudson, Lee, and Park have to say about what's coming up in the rest of season 2 and the future of the show in Us' burning questions breakdown.

The possibility of Ben returning to the present caught us off guard as it seemed too good to be true. Park believes that Ben's potential return would dismantle the entire foundation of Quantum Leap. "If Ben comes back, we're out of a job," Park quipped. "Of course, as characters, we all hope for closure with that storyline. We've put in years of work, especially with the time jump, to bring this person back. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that as characters, we want Ben to return."

Park expressed his desire for more episodes as an actor and expressed excitement about the plans the writers have for the show. Meanwhile, Hudson, 77, is cautiously waiting to see how the plot twist unfolds before getting his hopes up.

"We trust the producers and writers team, and as characters, we really want Ben to come back. But we're also open to the surprises that come with looking further ahead. I'm excited about the possibility, taking it one episode at a time. The writers have pushed boundaries before and I'm sure if Ben comes back, it will be very interesting and could change the format of the show." Lee also expressed confidence in the writers' ability to develop new and interesting storylines if this were to happen.

What Fans Can Expect From the Rest of Season 2

As the first half of season 2 wraps up, the cast is already busy on set shooting the remaining episodes. They have hinted at the direction the story will take and how it will pave the way for the show's future.

"What's really thrilling to me is how the characters are one aspect, but there's a whole other side to it, the people working behind the scenes," Hudson commented on potential threats. "These forces have a major impact on everything and their role in the future is a mystery. It's very exciting. It's not just about our relationships, there are other elements that will shake things up."

Park chose not to give any hints about the direction of season 2, citing their "limits" and jokingly saying, "I'll end up spoiling something somehow."

Meanwhile, Lee urged viewers to pay attention to the evolving character arcs and storylines.

"Season 2 has placed a greater emphasis on the dynamics of the relationships. Between the emotional journey of Ben and Addison, both together and individually, as well as the rest of the team and the challenges they are facing," she observed. "It provides a wonderful opportunity for the audience to explore different aspects of these characters. Some of these elements will continue to develop and we will witness the progression of these dynamics. However, I cannot reveal much beyond that."

"I prefer to discover it as we go along. But if there are major events about to happen, it's good to be aware because it impacts everything that comes after," shared Hudson. "I don't want to be completely clueless, but I'd like to discover it in the same way the audience does, as much as possible."

Park informed us that they anticipated being teased frequently on the set for not reading ahead in their scripts.

“Nanrisa often gives me a hard time about my approach to uncertainty. But I find great joy in exploring the unknown. It's exciting to see the creative ideas that the writers present each week, especially since the show takes unexpected and dramatic turns,” they enthusiastically expressed. “I prefer not to become overly invested in storylines or fixed ideas about what might happen, as they are likely to surprise us with unexpected developments anyway.”

Meanwhile, Lee loves connecting with her fellow cast members to discuss the major plot twists.

"Absolutely, there are times when I'll message the cast group chat in all caps right after we receive a new script. It's thrilling to be a part of a series where significant events unfold," she said. "I enjoy being caught off guard, but as Mason mentioned, if the twist directly affects our character, we're given a heads up."

The actress concluded: “As far as the twists and turns of things that are happening with the program or in the leap, we just got one that I could not contain myself [about]. I just read it the other night. It was insane. It’s going to be really, really, pretty exciting to deal with.”
