Highlights

The designer of the Five Nights at Freddy's movie is standing by the appearance of the animatronic characters despite fan criticism.

The animatronics in the film were brought to life using costumes instead of digital enhancements, debunking speculations from certain fans.

With a blend of elements from later games and the franchise's lore, the movie promises an exhilarating cinematic experience for devoted fans.

In response to fan backlash, Robert Bennett, the movie designer for Five Nights at Freddy's, stood firm in his decision regarding the appearance of the chilling animatronics in the film. Despite criticism, Blumhouse Pictures is bringing the terrifying world of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria to the big screen, with Josh Hutcherson taking on the role of the lead character who faces a relentless and deadly group of animatronic animals in the movie adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's.

In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Bennett, the creature designer for the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy's movie, addressed fan criticisms about the appearance of the animatronic characters in the film. Bennett acknowledged that the majority of feedback had been extremely positive, stating, "I've seen nothing but positive comments. I was unaware of the controversy surrounding the red eyes in the poster, as that was something from the fan lore."

Bennett also highlighted a particular fan who expressed a desire to see real animatronics rather than computer-generated images after watching a trailer for the movie. "I watched a few YouTube reaction videos to the trailer. There was one guy who said, 'It looks amazing, but I wish they had shown real animatronics instead of relying on CG,'" Bennett recounted. Contrary to fan criticisms, the FNAF designer clarified that the film's animatronic characters were actually created using costumes and not digitally enhanced, as some had speculated. Bennett stated, "No, everything in the trailer is our costumes. We didn't use any digital touch-ups. It's great that the fans appreciate the accuracy."

In the movie, Hutcherson plays the character of Mike Schmidt, who becomes a security guard at a haunted pizza place and arcade. The Five Nights at Freddy's film will incorporate elements from later games and the extensive lore, introducing the terrifying animatronic known as Springtrap. In the original game, Springtrap stalked the player at the eerie Fazbear Fright location. By including Springtrap, the film will explore the franchise's dark origins and reveal its blood-soaked history.

Fans can anticipate an exhilarating cinematic experience that builds upon the premise of the first Five Nights at Freddy's game, while also incorporating elements from later games and the broader lore. However, there will be some differences from the original material, as the filmmakers strive to deliver a satisfying adaptation for the big screen. It will be fascinating to witness the reaction of fans to this highly anticipated feature film.

Five Nights At Freddy's is scheduled to hit theatres on October 27, 2023.
