Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two director Christopher McQuarrie has addressed concerns about the release date by confirming the progress made in filming. While the latest installment is almost ready for theaters, work on the sequel is also well underway and set to release next year. Despite worries stemming from the writer's and potential actors' strikes, McQuarrie reassures fans that a significant portion of the sequel has already been shot. See his full statement below, as shared with Collider:
We have completed filming in all our international locations, except for one. Our big action sequences have been shot, except for the largest and most important set piece in the entire film. This particular set piece is massive and unlike anything we have ever done before, and I believe it will also be unlike anything you have seen. The remaining interstitial scenes have all been filmed. There are still characters in the movie that you are not yet aware of. We also have a special action sequence, which I would categorize as a sidebar, involving the team. This sequence is yet to be filmed and it will be the first thing we work on when we return. It includes elements that I have never had the opportunity to work with before. It presents a significant challenge due to our tight schedule. The plan is to have all principal photography completed by early next year. Stay tuned for more updates.
