Bethesda's upcoming unannounced title is based on a Disney property, according to a well-known leaker and insider source.
The ZeniMax roadmap leak indicates that the game is scheduled to be released in fiscal year 2024 for the company, although the accuracy of its launch window target remains uncertain.
It is currently unknown which of Bethesda's development teams is at the helm of the Disney title's development, given that the company has numerous studios situated in various locations.
According to a well-known leaker, Bethesda's undisclosed game is apparently based on a Disney property. This revelation came to light when Microsoft accidentally unveiled a vast array of trade secrets, including a five-year release schedule and revenue forecast from ZeniMax Media, which Microsoft acquired in 2021. The leaked documents disclosed the development of remasters for Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, as well as an untitled game connected to a licensed IP. It's important to note that this mystery game is distinct from Bethesda and MachineGames' Indiana Jones adaptation, which was listed separately in the 2019 document.
According to industry insider Nick Baker, the unannounced project is connected to the Indiana Jones game, as both are based on Disney properties. Baker mentioned this during the latest episode of The XboxEra Podcast, citing an unnamed source. However, no further details were provided regarding this claim, except that there are several potential Disney intellectual property candidates for Bethesda's upcoming project. It was previously reported by Baker that a game based on The Mandalorian was expected to be released by early 2022, but it is likely that there are other Disney properties currently in development for interactive adaptations.
Based on a leaked ZeniMax roadmap, it was predicted that the mysterious licensed IP game from Bethesda would be released during their fiscal year 2024. However, it is uncertain if the project is still on track to meet its targeted launch window, as other titles mentioned in the leak did not follow their expected release dates. For instance, the 2019 forecast stated that both the Indiana Jones game and Oblivion remaster were anticipated to be released in 2022.
Irrespective of whether the upcoming title is based on another Disney property or not, this recent development seems to confirm a mid-2021 report suggesting that Bethesda is working on at least one undisclosed game. The leading developer for the rumored Disney title remains unclear. However, Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 has entered early production after the release of Starfield. This project is believed to be occupying the main team in Rockville, Maryland.
Bethesda also has satellite offices in Dallas and Montreal, which have primarily supported its non-mobile projects thus far. Another possibility is Bethesda Game Studios Austin, known for its contributions to the 2016 Doom and Fallout 76 games.
