The new Blood Knight class in Diablo Immortal has sparked interest among fans but won't be included in Diablo 4, according to Rod Fergusson.
Vampires have always played a role in the Diablo series, but the introduction of the Blood Knight in Diablo Immortal has truly thrust them into the limelight.
Although this may come as a letdown to certain enthusiasts, whispers indicate that the sixth class in Diablo 4 could potentially be a knight armed with a polearm and endowed with celestial abilities, offering a fresh and distinctive gaming encounter.
Although the new Blood Knight class in Diablo Immortal has generated interest among fans, Rod Fergusson, the developer of Diablo 4, has confirmed that players should not expect to encounter this sanguine champion in the latest installment of the franchise. On August 22, Diablo 4 introduced the Season of Blood, which featured various improvements and quality-of-life enhancements, prompting the community to notice a prominent vampire theme.
Vampires have always had a passive presence in the Diablo franchise, either appearing as generic enemies or lingering in the background of Sanctuary's mythology. The announcement of the Blood Knight's arrival in Diablo Immortal put vampires front and center for the first time, and this concept is further expanded upon in Diablo 4's Season 2. The addition of a spear-wielding, dark champion seamlessly aligns with the fantasy of a Diablo class, leading many players to speculate if the Blood Knight will eventually make its way into Diablo 4.
In an interview with the German publication 4Players at Gamescom 2023, Rod Fergusson discussed the future of the Blood Knight class in the franchise. Fergusson emphasized that the Season of Blood's theme was purely coincidental and stressed that Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal are two distinct games with unique technologies. He ultimately confirmed that there are currently no plans to introduce the Blood Knight to Diablo 4.
Despite the disappointment felt by some Diablo Immortal players regarding Fergusson's response to the popularity of the Blood Knight, rumors suggest that Diablo 4's sixth class may still be a polearm-wielding knight with angelic powers from the High Heavens. In the interview, Fergusson also disclosed that Diablo 4 will not have Public Realm Testing for future patches, citing increased development time and slower update releases as reasons.
Although Blood Knights will not be part of Diablo 4's Season of Blood, players will still have the opportunity to embody the fantasy of vampire hunters employing vampiric powers against their foes. The full range of these powers and how they integrate into Diablo 4's existing endgame loop remains unknown. However, for many fans, highlights of Season 2 will include an ambitious attribute overhaul, the addition of a stash search function, and changes to gems.
Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
