The game industry often announces video games years before they are released. However, it is quite unusual to announce a game four years in advance, which is exactly what happened with The God Slayer, a PlayStation 5 game. The God Slayer is part of Sony's China Hero Project initiative, which involves collaboration with Chinese developers.

Sony launched the China Hero Project in 2017. In 2022, Sony further demonstrated its commitment to the project by investing a minimum of $140,000 into each game developed under its umbrella. Recently, Sony revealed some of the games from the China Hero Project, including The God Slayer, which is set to be released in 2027 on the PS5.

The release of The God Slayer was announced, along with its 2027 release window, accompanied by some impressive-looking screenshots shared by Gematsu. Although The God Slayer is an original intellectual property (IP), some fans might already be familiar with its developer. Pathea Games, the developer behind The God Slayer, gained recognition for their well-received life simulation and role-playing game, My Time at Portia. Currently, Pathea Games is actively working on the co-op sequel, My Time at Sandrock. Considering their ongoing commitment to My Time at Sandrock, it is understandable that The God Slayer is still several years away from its release.

There are indications that God Slayer will have exclusive availability on the PS5 console, giving fans something to anticipate for a potential PS5 exclusive in 2027. Official court documents have hinted that the next generation of consoles will not be released until 2028, suggesting that there will be additional PS5 exclusive games in 2027. However, it is likely that fans will have to wait until closer to that year before more details become available.

Sony focuses primarily on the near future when it comes to its upcoming game releases. Currently, it is heavily promoting the exclusive PS5 game Spider-Man 2, and there haven't been many announcements regarding the first-party PlayStation lineup for 2024. However, this doesn't mean that there are no plans in motion. On the contrary, Sony is working on significant games for 2024 and beyond, but fans will have to be patient to discover what lies ahead. In the meantime, they can enjoy playing current PS5 games while keeping The God Slayer in mind, as it is scheduled for release in 2027.
