Insomniac has finally started a full-blown marketing campaign for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, after keeping fans waiting for more information. With the release of 10 minutes of gameplay footage and the introduction of its two main villains, the excitement is building. Although new details are scarce, fans were treated to appearances at Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards' 10-Year Concert. Now, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to appear at a Marvel panel during San Diego Comic-Con 2023 later this month. The panel, titled "Symbiotic Relationships," will take place in Hall H on Thursday, July 20. While it is unclear which actors from the game will be present, the presence of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 at SDCC is significant, considering how extensively the original installment was showcased in 2018 prior to its release.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Shared a Lot at SDCC 2018
Marvel’s Spider-Man made a big impression at SDCC 2018 by sharing significant details, including the entire opening cinematic. This allowed fans to get a clear look at Peter Parker’s apartment and the various Easter eggs hidden within. Taking that into consideration, it is possible that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 may reveal its own opening cutscene at SDCC 2023. It remains uncertain what this cutscene will involve and how it will continue the narrative following Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
However, the recently revealed concept art for the sequel indicates that Peter Parker and the Osborns have collaborated to create a charity fundraiser called the Emily-May Foundation. This suggests that they may be exploring medical research inspired by the deaths of Emily Osborn and May Parker. During SDCC 2018, Marvel’s Spider-Man also unveiled Adi Granov’s Velocity Suit, as well as a PS4 Pro Bundle featuring a vibrant red console adorned with the game’s iconic white spider emblem, along with a matching red-and-white controller.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected to introduce a plethora of new suit skins. Despite several suits already being partially revealed through pre-order bonuses and special editions, it is possible that a new suit will be unveiled at SDCC 2023. Additionally, considering the recent release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in theaters, it is highly likely that at least one suit inspired by the movie will make an appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It wouldn't be surprising if a themed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 controller is also released, and there is a possibility of it being bundled with a specially designed PS5 console. However, there is more to look forward to.
During SDCC 2018, Marvel’s Spider-Man released a story trailer that highlighted the game's main villains at the time, suggesting that the story would primarily revolve around Spider-Man facing the Sinister Six while Mary Jane Watson investigates Norman Osborn and Silver Sable. However, it turned out that these sequences were smaller parts of the overall narrative, even though they were cinematically and climactically significant. If Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases a story trailer at SDCC 2023, fans should keep in mind that the showcased scenes may not provide a complete representation of the entire story.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches on October 20, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
