Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has united with the writers and actors from the series on the picket line, emphasizing the significance of the collective team. The continuous strikes by the WGA writers and SAG-AFTRA actors in Hollywood have resulted in a production halt for all shows and movies produced by studios affiliated with the AMPTP. Family Guy, like many others, is directly affected, prompting its writers and actors to unite in their demand for better compensation and overall fair treatment from the studios. In a display of solidarity, Seth MacFarlane has now taken to Twitter to express his support for the Family Guy team on the picket line.
In his post, MacFarlane discusses the significant contributions of the Family Guy team to the show's success. He advocates for fair compensation for writers and actors, expressing hope for an agreement between labor unions and studios. Take a look at MacFarlane's complete statement below:
Shown in this photo are some of the talented individuals who make up the Family Guy team. In 2010, as I was preparing for "Ted" and unsure of the show's future without me, I quickly realized that the team of writers, artists, actors, assistants, associates, and production staff were already leading the way. They continue to do so today. These individuals have become lifelong friends, and they consistently remind me of the best part of this industry: collaborating with people who use their talents to improve our shared work. I truly hope that everyone in this picture feels a personal sense of pride for their contributions to Family Guy, as it is well deserved. Above all, each and every person here deserves a fair and comfortable livelihood in the industry that demands so much from them. I am honored to stand united with this group today, advocating for a fair and just agreement. Additionally, I am relieved that no one detected the presence of alcohol in my coffee.
Why Hollywood Strikes Have Been Going On For So Long
Production on Family Guy season 22 is facing delays due to the ongoing strike by writers and actors. This strike is also affecting other popular TV series such as Stranger Things, The Last of Us, Andor, Yellowjackets, Silo, and more. The strikes are expected to continue until the WGA and SAG-AFTRA reach a fair agreement with the AMPTP regarding compensation for writers and actors in the industry.
The writers and actors are advocating for better pay and residuals from streaming and AI regulation. It remains uncertain whether the studios will meet their demands and how long it will take for productive negotiations to take place with the AMPTP. However, there is a glimmer of hope as the AMPTP studios are willing to engage in negotiations with the WGA on Friday, which suggests that the strikes may come to an end soon.
Despite the recent update, the battle for actors in SAG-AFTRA is ongoing and the outcome of talks with studios on Friday remains uncertain. It is improbable that a single conversation will immediately resolve all the issues, leaving writers and actors from Family Guy and other shows to continue their strike for the foreseeable future. Nonetheless, MacFarlane's endorsement instills confidence that the demands being fought for by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA will ultimately benefit the writers and actors of Family Guy.
