Palace officials have confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially left their U.K. residence at Frogmore Cottage, as announced by Sir Michael Stevens, keeper of the Privy Purse, during a royal finances briefing, as reported by Sky News on Thursday, June 29.

Stevens stated that the details of the couple's "arrangements" would not be discussed at the briefing. He confirmed that the duke and duchess have paid for the expenses related to the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, in addition to the Sovereign Grant. This has resulted in a significant increase in the value of the property for the Crown.

Built in 1801 during Queen Charlotte's reign, Frogmore Cottage is located approximately 25 miles from London. Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, moved into the property in April 2019, almost a year after their royal wedding. Extensive renovations were carried out on the home to prepare for the arrival of their son, Archie, who is now 4 years old.

The Sussexes relocated to California after publicly declaring their intentions to resign as senior working members of the royal family in January 2020. By the close of the year, Harry had reimbursed the Sovereign Grant for the expenses incurred in renovating their cottage, amounting to approximately $3.1 million.

In March, it was established that King Charles III had personally requested Harry and Meghan to vacate their property in the United Kingdom. An insider source shared exclusively that the Archewell cofounders were taken aback by this demand.

“There is nothing they can actually do,” stated the source. “Charles had the option to maintain it open for them if he wished, but it is evident that he doesn't.”

The source stated that the king, aged 74, perceived the relocation as a practical choice due to the infrequent presence of the Sussexes in the residence, necessitating a full-time resident to occupy and maintain Frogmore Cottage.

Charles, who became king after Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September 2022, has the ultimate authority to decide who will reside at the cottage next. According to a source, he believes that it would be more appropriate for Andrew to live there. Andrew, who is 63 years old, stepped down from his public duties in 2019 following allegations of sexual assault. He reached a settlement in his lawsuit in February 2022, one month after being stripped of his royal titles.

The request from the monarch came soon after Harry's memoir, Spare, was released. The book further strained Harry's already strained relationship with his father, and this may have influenced Charles' decision to ask Andrew. An insider explained that it is not difficult to connect the dots and understand that Harry and Meghan have lost favor with Charles and the rest of the royal family.

After departing the premises in 2020, Harry and Meghan extended an invitation to his cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, to make use of their previous abode. Subsequently, in April 2021, Harry temporarily resided at Frogmore upon his return to the United Kingdom to attend Prince Philip's funeral.
