Exclusive: Highly Anticipated Horror Game Shocks Fans with Major PS4 Version Update

The highly anticipated horror game takes a surprising turn as the developer opts to cancel the release of the game for PlayStation 4, focusing exclusively on next-generation consoles Fans are left wondering about the reasons behind this unexpected decision

Highlights

The PS4 version of Quantum Error has been canceled by the creators, TeamKill Media, as a result of hardware limitations and the challenge of achieving the same level of quality as the PS5 version.

In an announcement on social media, TeamKill Media explained that the slower HDD speed of the PS4 would hinder the game's ability to maintain a smooth 60 FPS rate without significant sacrifices.

The team has faced issues with non-PS5 platforms before, specifically mentioning loading screens for the Xbox version. However, the creators of Quantum Error have now decided to cancel the PS4 version of the game due to its inability to match the quality of the PS5 version on outdated hardware. Quantum Error is an eagerly anticipated first-person cosmic horror game featuring firefighters as the main characters, making it a highly anticipated title among horror genre fans.

Shortly after its initial announcement for the PS5 in 2020, it was revealed that Quantum Error would no longer be exclusive to the PS5. Versions for both the Xbox Series X/S and PS4 were in the works. However, it appears that the development process for these other platforms has encountered some obstacles due to hardware limitations.

The cancellation of the PS4 version of Quantum Error was announced through the game's official social media profile. TeamKill Media, the developers, had initially hoped to create a PS4 version of the game. However, this would have required extensive downgrading and modification of assets, which proved to be impractical. They stated that it would not be possible to achieve a smooth 60 FPS experience on the PS4 without sacrificing too much. This is primarily due to the slower HDD speed of the last-generation consoles.

Considering that the team initially focused on developing the game for the more powerful PS5, attempting to optimize it for older consoles would inevitably result in a product that fell short of their expectations. Despite investing significant time in the PS4 version, it was deemed unfeasible.

The team has expressed dissatisfaction with non-PS5 platforms before. Recently, TeamKill Media acknowledged that the Xbox version of Quantum Error might have loading screens, unlike the PS5 version.

Despite nearing the end of development, Quantum Error does not have a confirmed release date. Gamers may have to turn to other horror games on PS5 in the meantime. Furthermore, TeamKill Media mentioned in the comments that there are currently no plans for a PC launch, and they are uncertain about the timeline for the port.

Quantum Error is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
