Summary

Despite an official announcement, the Community movie might not happen due to production setbacks caused by the ongoing strikes.

Dan Harmon, the creator of Community, has voiced concerns over the potential challenge of gathering the cast for the movie once the strikes come to an end.

There are concerns that the Community movie may not happen. Despite years of fan campaigning, the announcement in September 2022 that a Community movie was being developed for Peacock, with the original stars returning, the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have caused production setbacks and raised doubts about the plans.

The latest update on the Community movie reveals that creator Dan Harmon is worried it may not happen at all. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Harmon admitted that once the SAG-AFTRA strike ends, there may be difficulties in getting the cast back together. Harmon expressed concern about the challenges of coordinating everyone's schedules. He remarked, "By the time we can recoordinate, what are the odds that everyone’s schedule is going to once again align?"

Prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Harmon explains that the original plan was to film the Community movie in Los Angeles. However, to accommodate Glover's return, they made the decision to move the shooting location to Atlanta. Harmon expresses Glover's excitement about this change. Although Glover's name was initially not included in the September 2022 announcement, there have been subsequent updates indicating his return. Despite his involvement in other projects, such as Prime Video's Mr. and Mrs. Smith series and the Star Wars Lando movie, the decision to relocate the filming to Atlanta was made to prevent separate shoots occurring in different months and locations for the Community movie.

The uncertainty surrounding the conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA strike raises doubts about whether the Community cast will be able to reunite for the movie. Once the strike does come to an end, there will likely be a race in Hollywood to secure top talent, including Glover and McHale. McHale, known for his role in Fox's Animal Control and as a host of reality competition series like Crime Scene Kitchen and House of Villains, may also be impacted by the strike. In light of Harmon's comment, the fate of the much-anticipated Community movie appears to be in serious doubt.
