What Would Have Happened In How I Met Your Father Season 3?
I want to express my gratitude to the exceptional cast and crew who dedicated their time and effort to the production of #HIMYF. It is undeniable that the unpredictability of this industry can lead to such circumstances. Nonetheless, I will deeply miss the emotion that arises, even from a distance, when witnessing these remarkable #HIMYM professionals collaborating and generating outstanding content, which has always had a profound impact on my heart.
With the cancellation of How I Met Your Father, the show's title remains unfulfilled. The character Jesse (played by Chris Lowell) has long been hinted as the most likely candidate to be the father. This possibility became even stronger when Jesse and Sophie (played by Duff) finally confessed their love for each other in a romantic scene during the season 2 finale. Now, with the show's cancellation, the progress of their relationship in season 3 is uncertain.
Sid (Suraj Sharma), who divorced Hannah (Ashley Reyes) in the season 2 finale of How I Met Your Father, is another potential candidate to be the father. Their relationship couldn't handle the distance and their changing feelings for each other. In season 3, viewers would have seen how Sid copes with the heartbreak and whether he and Sophie would end up together, depending on the show's duration. Simultaneously, Sophie's close friend Valentina (Francia Raisa) had a romantic encounter with Drew (Josh Peck), although future Sophie hinted that Valentina and Charlie (Tom Ainsley) would reconcile and have a son. Season 3 would have worked towards this ultimate outcome.
The spinoff also featured beloved characters from How I Met Your Mother, such as Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) and Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris). Their appearances shed light on this particular period of their lives and the invaluable advice they provided Sophie during crucial moments in her story. Season 3 might have also brought back Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor), Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), or Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel). Although How I Met Your Father may have been canceled, there is hope for its revival in order to explore these unresolved questions and possibilities.
