Toad, a well-known character from the Mutant Brotherhood in the X-Men comics, had limited screen time in the film franchise. He appeared briefly in X-Men and X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, he was part of a memorable scene in the franchise's history. During a climactic battle with Storm, Toad attempted to hold his ground by using his elongated tongue to stick to a pole. Storm, using her weather-controlling powers, delivered the famous line, "Do you know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning?" before striking him with lightning, resulting in one of the most cringe-worthy moments in superhero movie dialogue.

Toad's potential return in Deadpool 3 after all these years might be attributed to various factors. In the franchise's inaugural release in 2016, Deadpool amusingly ridiculed poor superhero films, such as Ryan Reynolds' involvement in the 2011 DC flop Green Lantern, as well as the dreadful execution of Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
