Avengers: Secret Wars currently lacks a director, however, there have been rumors suggesting that Shawn Levy might take on the role. Interestingly, even the director of Deadpool 3 has been aware of these speculations.
During an interview with ET Canada, Levy was questioned about his potential involvement with Avengers: Secret Wars and gave a noncommittal response. "I've come across that rumor, and that's all I'll mention," he stated. It's worth noting that he did not outright dismiss the gossip, as he remains focused on resuming production for Deadpool 3.
Levy provided more details about Deadpool 3 and shared insights on how the film, featuring Ryan Reynolds, will integrate into the MCU. The previous two movies, starring the irreverent anti-hero, were released by 20th Century Fox before Disney acquired the studio.
Levy described the film as raw and slightly gritty, deliberately avoiding a sleek and polished aesthetic. Unlike movies with aliens battling in space, Deadpool 3 will have a grounded, real-world feel. Consequently, the production team made the decision to shoot the majority of the movie on location, avoiding the use of sound stages to create artificial set-extensions.
The premiere date of Deadpool 3 is uncertain following Disney's decision to remove the movie from its initial schedule for the first half of 2024. Although the official release date is May 3, a delay appears likely due to the pause in production caused by the Hollywood actors strike.
In the meantime, Avengers: Secret Wars experienced a one-year delay in June and is now slated to premiere on May 7, 2027. Reports suggest that Michael Waldron, the writer of Loki and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, is currently working on the script for Avengers: Secret Wars. This Marvel Cinematic Universe film was originally announced alongside Avengers: The Kang Dynasty during Comic-Con 2022.
