A new trailer for Barbie has unveiled John Cena's Ken, and his character in the film is just as hilarious as expected. Directed by Greta Gerwig, Barbie stars Margot Robbie as the main character, but also includes a talented cast of supporting characters. Although Cena's role was previously confirmed, it was kept a mystery until now. Ahead of the Barbie release date, a new behind-the-scenes trailer shared by iHollywoodTV introduces Cena's character to the world.
Barbie's Eccentric Supporting Characters Explained
Cena, featured at the conclusion of the extensive featurette shown above, presents a striking appearance with his long hair and seashell necklace, portraying the character of "Kenmaid," a mermaid adaptation of Ken.
The extent of Cena's involvement as Kenmaid in Barbie is still unclear, but it appears to be limited to a brief appearance. He disclosed that his casting in the movie is solely due to Fast X being filmed nearby. Although there are still many unanswered questions about Cena's role in the film, Kenmaid is just one of the eccentric supporting characters in Barbie.
Gerwig's forthcoming film showcases a diverse ensemble of Barbie and Ken dolls, each embodying various professions. For instance, Hari Nef takes on the role of Doctor Barbie. While some characters are derived from their respective careers, which are inspired by different versions of the popular Mattel toy, others deviate from this pattern. Kate McKinnon portrays Weird Barbie, a character depicted in the Barbie trailer as a societal outsider with profound knowledge of the world beyond Barbie Land.
Similarly, Michael Cera's Allan stands out as an aberration in Barbie Land. Sporting red hair and bearing little resemblance to Ryan Gosling's Ken, Cera recently shared with Screen Rant that Allan is somewhat "fixated on Ken." Emerald Fennell assumes a similar role as Midge, a friend of Robbie's character. Though many mysteries still surround the Barbie narrative, one thing is certain - the film will boast an impressive array of captivating characters.
