Stephane Boudon, the creative director of Assassin's Creed Mirage, has delivered disappointing news to players who were hoping for extensive post-launch support and DLC for the game. Unlike Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which Boudon also directed and incorporated RPG elements, Assassin's Creed Mirage embraces the action-adventure roots of the original Assassin's Creed game from 2007.
In Assassin's Creed Mirage, players will be immersed in the story of Basim, a young street thief living in the Golden Age era of Baghdad. Basim embarks on a quest for justice and answers regarding his past and joins an ancient order of assassins to pursue his goal. Throughout his journey as an assassin, Basim delves deeper into the creed and eventually ascends to the esteemed rank of Master Assassin. Along the way, the protagonist's path will lead him to Alamut, the renowned headquarters of the assassin order featured in the original Assassin's Creed game.
In a Reddit AMA hosted by Ubisoft, creative director Stephane Boudon confirms that Assassin's Creed Mirage will not receive extensive post-launch support or DLC. However, Boudon mentions that these plans may change in the future. Currently, any DLC will be limited to cosmetic items and additional content available at the game's release.
Pre-orders for Assassin's Creed Mirage include the exclusive "Forty Thieves" quest as a bonus. Additionally, players who purchase the Deluxe or Collector's Case editions will gain access to the Prince of Persia-inspired Deluxe Pack.
The director of Assassin's Creed Mirage emphasized the game's renewed emphasis on fluidity and control in parkour, a key aspect of the Assassin's Creed franchise. While certain parkour features from previous games are not included in Mirage, Boudon assured players that they have implemented various small details to ensure full control of the protagonist, Basim. The development team is continuously refining the parkour mechanics to ensure the best possible quality for the game's release later this year.
Although there is a possibility for DLC, Boudon's recent remark suggests that it is highly unlikely. While some may be disappointed by the lack of post-launch support and DLC, Ubisoft is focusing on the main story and gameplay mechanics of Assassin's Creed Mirage. Additionally, Ubisoft considers Mirage to be a tribute to the original Assassin's Creed game from 2007, which also did not receive DLC after its launch.
Assassin's Creed Mirage offers a condensed, yet immersive, Assassin's Creed experience compared to the latest installments in the franchise. Additionally, players have the opportunity to enhance their gameplay by purchasing the Assassin's Creed Mirage haptic suit developed by OWO. By donning this special accessory, players can truly immerse themselves in Basim's journey by experiencing haptic feedback in their entire torso as they navigate and battle in the world of Assassin's Creed Mirage.
The highly anticipated release of Assassin's Creed Mirage is set for October 12 and will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
