Warning: Spoilers for The Wheel of Time season 2, episode 7
Summary
Siuan Sanche's role as the Amyrlin Seat in The Wheel of Time hangs precariously in season 2, episode 7, foreshadowing her imminent downfall. The revelation of Siuan's clandestine knowledge regarding the existence of the Dragon Reborn becomes a pivotal element in her eventual dismissal, as it demands an explanation for the events surrounding Rand's escape.
Liandrin is a formidable contender poised to seize the seat of the new Amyrlin and orchestrate Siuan's downfall. With her disruptive actions at the White Tower, she now has a golden opportunity to grasp power. In episode 7 of season 2 of The Wheel of Time, titled "Daes Dae'mar," the foundation was laid for the emergence of a new Amyrlin Seat, thereby marking yet another significant deviation from the original novels by Robert Jordan. While Siuan Sanche currently holds the position in Amazon's live-action adaptation, it appears that her reign may soon come to an end as she faces the imminent threat of being overthrown by Liandrin and the Aes Sedai.
The Wheel Of Time Just Set Up Siuan Sanche’s Downfall
: Siuan's reign as The Wheel of Time's Amyrlin Seat is not expected to be permanent, mirroring her book counterpart whose power eventually wanes. In contrast, the TV version currently maintains absolute authority. However, a pivotal event in Season 2, Episode 7 suggests that her downfall, although with a significant twist, is likely to be depicted onscreen, following the narrative of the books.Siuan's future as the Amyrlin Seat is in jeopardy due to the conclusion of "Daes Dae'mar" with Rand's escape. In the books, Siuan was ousted from power once the Aes Sedai discovered that she had concealed the existence of the Dragon Reborn for many years. This knowledge, which she kept hidden from her peers, led to a faction of Aes Sedai advocating for a new Amyrlin Seat. Consequently, Siuan was stripped of her powers. A similar situation unfolds in the show when Rand manages to flee, placing Siuan in a position where she is obligated to account for the events. In essence, she cannot provide a coherent explanation for the altercation with Rand without the truth being exposed.
The regrettable reality is that Siuan could be justifiably blamed by the Aes Sedai for the unfortunate events that transpired. From their viewpoint, Siuan had knowledge of the Dragon's return for years but chose to keep silent. Moreover, they had a chance to capture the Dragon Reborn but failed due to their lack of information. It is inevitable for the Aes Sedai to seek someone to hold accountable, and given Siuan's significant involvement, she becomes the prime candidate for blame.
Liandrin’s Wheel Of Time Story Hints She’ll Be The New Amyrlin Seat
Instead of following the books where Elaida was the one who orchestrated Siuan's downfall and became the new Amyrlin Seat, the show has not yet introduced Elaida. It would make sense for the series to gradually develop Elaida's character from a scheming Red Sister to the powerful Aes Sedai leader she becomes in the novels. However, since Elaida has been avoided so far (despite being introduced in the first book), it is likely that Liandrin will take on her role instead.
Allowing Liandrin, from The Wheel of Time, to take the lead in removing Siuan from power would be the most natural progression for her storyline. Similar to Elaida, Liandrin, a Red Sister, has been causing trouble within the White Tower for a significant amount of time. Therefore, she would be a fitting replacement for Elaida in the upcoming storyline. Moreover, she has long desired someone else to be in charge. With the recent events in Cairhien, Liandrin now has a clear opportunity to achieve her desired outcome.
New episodes of The Wheel of Time are released on Amazon Prime Video every Friday.
