Sony is reportedly considering releasing updated versions of The Last of Us Part 2, following the game's successful launch and numerous Game of the Year accolades in 2022. Currently exclusive to the PS4, players can also enjoy the game on PS5 through backwards compatibility, with Naughty Dog providing an update that enables playing at 60 FPS. Recent details suggest that Sony is potentially developing a new iteration of The Last of Us Part 2.
According to IGN, composer Gustavo Santaolalla shared information about potential new editions of The Last of Us Part 2 in an interview with Blender. Santaolalla mentioned that players can request him to play certain themes in these new editions. It is worth mentioning that fans should approach rumors or leaks with caution and wait for an official announcement from Sony or Naughty Dog. While it is unclear what these new editions will include, it appears that Sony may release an enhanced version of The Last of Us Part 2. A leak from 2022 suggested the development of a Director's Cut for the game, which could be what Santaolalla was alluding to in the interview. Considering that The Last of Us Part 2 already supports 60 FPS on the PS5, it will be intriguing to see the upgrades and improvements offered in this edition compared to the original game.
Sony released The Last of Us Part 1 on PC earlier this year and it is possible that this new version will also be released on PC alongside the PS5 launch. However, the PC version of The Last of Us Part 1 faced numerous issues, which led to negative reviews. This is in contrast to Sony's other PC ports, which were generally well-received, making the performance problems of The Last of Us Part 1 an exception. To address these issues, Naughty Dog has released several updates for the PC version, focusing on optimizing the game and fixing bugs.
Currently, The Last of Us Part 2 is available on PS4.
