On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, Netflix revealed the official trailer for the Onimusha anime, a series based on the popular game by CAPCOM. Along with the trailer, they also announced the series' release date in early November. In addition, a cast and staff list for the anime was released, along with the announcement of the main theme song, indicating that there will only be one theme for the entire series.

Mushashi Miyamoto set to be brought to life in upcoming Onimusha anime series on November 2, 2023

The upcoming Onimusha anime is an adaptation of CAPCOM's survival action games set in the Sengoku era. These popular games, first released in 2001, beautifully combine historical storytelling with supernatural elements. The most recent title in the series, Warlords, was globally released in January 2019 following a remastering process.

The anime they are working on at Sublimation Studios is being directed by Shinya Sugai. Hideyuki Kurata and Koji Endo are composing the music, while Shochiko is credited for historical supervision. Keiji Tsuji is responsible for stunt coordination and Kim Jung Gi is credited for character designs, except for Miyamoto Musashi, whose design is credited to Manilyn Toledana. Takashi Miike is the supervising director for the series.

The series will take inspiration from the late renowned actor Toshiro Mifune, known for his roles in Rashomon and Seven Samurai, for the character Miyamoto Musashi. CAPCOM's original game series has previously influenced the creation of the Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams film in 2006. The film combines CG-animated footage from the video game with additional scenes.
