Capcom has confirmed that Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess will be available on Xbox Game Pass in 2024. Inspired by Japanese mythology, this "action strategy" game is joining the growing list of titles making their day-one debut on Xbox Game Pass this year.
Back in June 2023, Capcom first announced Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase. While the reveal trailer showcased the stylish title, details on its availability were scarce. The game was confirmed for a day-one Xbox Game Pass release, but development progress was the only information provided at that time.
New Kunitsu-Gami Trailer Narrows Down Its Xbox Game Pass Release Window
Capcom has narrowed down the release window for Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess to 2024. This announcement was made during the March 6 Xbox Partner Preview event, where a new gameplay trailer titled "Kagura" was shared. The game takes inspiration from a type of ceremonial dance called Kagura, practiced in Japan by followers of the Shinto religion. Described as a "single-player Kagura action strategy" experience, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is highly influenced by this traditional dance.
Release Date on Xbox Game Pass
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is expected to be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2024, with a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass. However, Capcom has not announced a specific release date yet.
Capcom's game inspired by Japanese folklore wasn't the only one announced for Xbox Game Pass during the early March Xbox Partner Preview broadcast. Polish developer 11 Bit Studios revealed that their sci-fi survival game, The Alters, will also be available on Game Pass on its release day. Similar to Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, The Alters is set to debut in the 2024 market, but a specific launch date is still pending.
Kunitsu-Gami Path of the Goddess Steam screenshot 1 - Given that state of affairs, it's plausible that both games will launch near the end of the year; anything sooner than a Q4 target would ostensibly require the projects to already be verging on completion, but that's seemingly not the case if their publishers still aren't ready to commit to more specific release windows as of March
Xbox Game Pass Day-One Releases in Q1 2024
Given the current situation, it seems likely that both games will be launched towards the end of the year. Releasing them any earlier than the fourth quarter would suggest that the projects are almost finished, but it appears that this is not the case since the publishers have not yet announced specific release dates as of March. Another game expected to be available on Xbox Game Pass on its launch day is Age of Mythology: Retold, a remastered version of the beloved 2002 RTS game developed by Ensemble Studios.
