Hades truly achieved something extraordinary, and while replicating its triumph may prove challenging, Hades 2 is poised to give it a valiant effort.

Unveiled at last year's Game Awards, Hades 2 appears to be a direct continuation of its predecessor, carrying forward some of the original's central themes while presenting them in a fresh and new context. In this sequel, players will take command of Melinoe, the daughter of Persephone, and possibly control Hades or Zeus as well. Their mission is to locate and overcome Chronos, the Titan who is the father of the gods and has recently escaped his prison in the underworld. Along the way, Melinoe will encounter a diverse array of mythological characters, most of whom are new to the sequel, but a few familiar faces will also make a return appearance.

Every Returning Character In Hades 2 Confirmed So Far

Despite its announcement in December 2022 and the expected early access release later this year, limited information has been shared about Hades 2. Fans are primarily relying on the one trailer unveiled during the Game Awards, which provides some insights into the game's main storyline and introduces a few characters that Melinoe will encounter on her journey. Some of these characters will be familiar to fans of the original Hades.

Similar to the first game, the central plot of Hades 2 revolves around the god of the underworld. However, instead of attempting her own escape, Melinoe appears to have the task of freeing Hades from his imprisonment. His Titan father, Chronos, has restrained him. The extent of Hades' involvement in the sequel remains unclear at this time, but he is among the confirmed returning characters for Hades 2.

Zeus, the leader of Olympus, is confirmed to be a returning character in Hades 2. Similar to the first game, Zeus will provide the player-character with various Boons, most likely centered around his lightning powers. As the one who led the war against his father Chronos, resulting in his eternal imprisonment, Zeus will likely have a significant role in the sequel's story, assisting Melinoe in preventing Chronos from escaping Tartarus and attacking Mount Olympus.

Currently, only Hades and Zeus have been confirmed as returning characters in Hades 2. However, fans can expect to see more familiar faces in the final game. With all of Olympus at risk due to Chronos' rampage, it is logical for other gods to join Melinoe in defeating the Titan. While not confirmed, it is speculated that Poseidon, Hermes, Athena, Artemis, Ares, and Aphrodite may appear in the sequel, each offering unique Boons that showcase their divine abilities. Additionally, there is a popular fan theory suggesting that Zagreus will have a major role in the sequel, taking over the underworld in place of his father. However, this theory remains speculative.

Regardless of rumors, fans can anticipate encountering a diverse range of new and returning mythological characters in Hades 2.
