Equestrian Georgie Campbell tragically passed away at the age of 37 on Sunday, May 26, while competing in an eventing competition in the U.K.
British Eventing, the governing body for equestrian competitions in the UK, reported that Campbell fell from her horse and sustained fatal injuries during the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England.
We are saddened to inform you that Georgie Campbell (GBR) tragically passed away after an accident during the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England on Sunday 26 May 2024. Medical help was on the scene quickly after she fell at fence 5b, but sadly, she could not be saved.
Out of respect for the family's privacy during this heartbreaking time, we will not be disclosing any additional information.
Campbell’s horse, Global Quest, was unharmed in the accident.
“The horse, Global Quest, was assessed by the on-site vets and walked back to the stable and is uninjured,” said British Eventing.
Police were called to Bicton Arena in East Budleigh following reports of a horse rider's death around 3:50 p.m. on Sunday, May 26th, according to Devon and Cornwall Police.
The rider, a woman in her 30s from Kent, tragically passed away. Authorities have stated that the incident is not considered suspicious, and a file will be compiled for the coroner's review.
Campbell participated in more than 200 events, including prestigious five-star competitions like the Badminton Horse Trials and the Burghley Horse Trials.
He was married to fellow eventing rider, Jesse Campbell, who competed for New Zealand in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
The couple regularly documented their events and training on their joint Instagram account.
Under a recent post, fans and fellow riding enthusiasts paid tribute to Campbell.
