Highlights

A new trailer for the Gothic remake provides a detailed tour of the Old Camp, showcasing the main gate and the arena.

The trailer does not feature any actual gameplay footage, but the portrayal of the Old Camp seems to closely resemble the original game.

Considering the absence of a specific launch date, it is unlikely that the Gothic remake will be accessible before 2025. However, a improved version of the original game will be released on Nintendo Switch in September.

A new trailer for the Gothic remake showcases the Old Camp, a beloved location from the original game. This detailed tour comes almost a year after the previous trailer, which featured eerie gameplay. Although the release date for the remake of Piranha Bytes' renowned RPG from 2001 has not been announced, THQ Nordic continues to provide glimpses of the game's progress every six months. Recently, they shared a screenshot giving a sneak peek of the updated look of the Old Camp in the Gothic remake.

The promo image was actually taken during the extensive tour of the Old Camp, which was shared by the Austrian publisher as part of the 2023 THQ Nordic Showcase. The video, which lasts for over two minutes, provides a detailed view of various parts of the camp's outer ring, including the main gate and the arena in the northeast. While the fighting pit appears to be more impressive than in the original game, the rest of the location featured in the trailer seems to be a faithful recreation of the Old Camp from Gothic.

Despite being rendered entirely in-engine, the trailer does not include any actual gameplay footage. Although a playable teaser for the Gothic remake was released in late 2019, the gameplay showcased in that prototype is unlikely to accurately represent the upcoming game. This is because many fans criticized it for deviating from the original combat system, leading Alkimia Interactive to go back to the drawing board.

Gothic's combat offers a unique experience where players take on the role of a character who initially lacks combat skills, resulting in a challenging early game. However, as players progress and earn learning points by leveling up and receiving training from experts, they gradually improve their abilities in using their chosen weapon. In addition to acquiring new attacks and combos, training also grants the protagonist faster swinging animations, a mechanic that has been rarely seen outside of Warhorse Studios' 2018 RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

The recently unveiled trailer did not provide any details regarding the release date for the Gothic remake. This absence of a release window suggests that the game is nowhere near completion and is unlikely to be available before 2025, at the earliest. In the meantime, Nintendo Switch owners can look forward to playing an enhanced version of the original Gothic, set to be released in September.

The Gothic remake is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
