In Alan Wake 2, players once again find themselves battling against the forces of darkness, 13 years after the original events. This time, the protagonist, Alan Wake, is joined by FBI Agent Saga Anderson. Together, they gather various weapons and tools to aid in their mission to solve the disturbing cult killings and combat the supernatural threats plaguing the town of Bright Falls.
Unlike the first game, Alan Wake 2 is a full-fledged survival-horror experience rather than an action-adventure. As a result, it introduces a brand new weapon upgrading system, inspired by games like Resident Evil and others in the genre. This is a significant departure from the first title, where players had access to a range of unalterable weapons, and their items and ammunition were often reset between episodes. To enhance Saga's standard-issue pistol in Alan Wake 2, players will need to locate a specific area and accumulate enough of a particular resource to unlock additional firepower and perks.
How To Upgrade Saga's Weapons In Alan Wake 2
To upgrade weapons in Alan Wake 2, players must enter Saga Anderson's mind place, which is accessible early in the game during the chapter titled Return 1: Invitation. Once inside, players will find various interactable items such as the case board and profiling desk.
Along the side of the far wall, players will spot a wine bar and desk, upon which rests a pistol magazine manual. When interacted with, the manual will display a menu presenting Saga's available upgrades.
Saga's pistol upgrades come with a cost, as players will have to obtain them using resources found throughout different locations and maps in the game. In addition to this, players must also search for and collect scattered manuscript fragments, which can be exchanged for the upgrades. These manuscript fragments are found within Alex Casey's lunchboxes, hidden in various spots throughout the game. While some of them may be easily visible, others are tucked away in hidden nooks and crannies. Saga's sidearm upgrades offer a total of three options for players to choose from.
Again And Again-- holding the fire button will activate auto-fire mode. Requires 18 fragments.
More Bullets-- increases pistol capacity by 50%. Requires 12 fragments.
Double Headshot - Increases the duration of stun on enemies when players successfully achieve two consecutive headshots. Acquisition of 12 fragments is necessary.
Upon collecting sufficient manuscript fragments, players can conveniently visit Saga's mental realm to exchange them for the aforementioned enhancements. This exchange will grant players an advantage in overcoming the formidable adversaries in Alan Wake 2, while progressing through Saga's investigation.
Alan Wake 2 is available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
