Attorney Brooke Goff, founder and CEO of Goff Law Group, believes that in 2024, society still expects women to be in a supportive role. However, women actually take the lead in every aspect of their own lives and the lives of their family members. They act as the CEOs of their households, so why can't they also be the CEOs of companies? The main issue lies in the lack of training and resources available. Therefore, more effort should be put into providing working mothers with the necessary tools to succeed as business owners and entrepreneurs.

Goff, who is 37 years old, has been challenging stereotypes from a young age. She broke barriers by becoming the first female football player on her middle and high school teams in Hudson Falls, New York. Despite facing challenges, she worked hard to put herself through college and law school. Today, she is known as the first openly gay lawyer in Connecticut.

 

She founded Goff Law Group seven years ago as a new mother, and for the last seven years, she has won the Super Lawyer Rising Star Award.

Goff mentioned that their law firm is the biggest high-volume woman-owned, operated, and managed personal injury law firm in Connecticut. They have 11 female attorneys on staff, providing a modern-day update to the typically male-dominated legal industry.

Goff emphasized that women with children are incredibly efficient, completing the same amount of work in eight hours that others do in twelve. This is due to their exceptional time management skills and the belief that every minute is valuable for completing tasks. Despite often getting little to no sleep, this ability is considered a true superpower and a crucial factor for success.

Now, in honor of Women’s History Month, Goff is using her platform to support government-funded programs that assist mothers in their professional growth. She believes in offering educational and job training opportunities for mothers looking to re-enter the workforce. Additionally, Goff advocates for financial support and training for mothers who decide to stay at home and start their own business, with the possibility of forgiveness under specific conditions.

 

She also wants to encourage young women to seek higher education and reward them for entering fields typically dominated by men.

Working women in their childbearing years often face challenges in advancing their careers. According to Goff, many top managers assume that these women will be absent from the office due to maternity leave or sick days, leading to missed job opportunities.

Goff mentioned that according to the U.S. Department of Labor, there are 24.2 million mothers in the US labor force with children younger than 18. Out of this total, 16% have reported being passed over for a promotion.

During her most recent pregnancy, she launched a billboard campaign to raise awareness. The strong message received positive feedback, sparking conversations about maternity and legal rights nationwide.

Goff is determined to not only win cases for her clients but also to break the stereotypes about working mothers. She wants to inspire others by showing that women can be successful leaders in any field while also embracing the joys of motherhood.
