England U21s advanced to the quarter-finals of Euro 2023 as the undefeated winners of Group C after a convincing 2-0 triumph over Israel. Anthony Gordon opened the scoring with a header in the 15th minute, while Emile Smith Rowe extended their lead in the second half.

How England made it two wins out of two

England's first match against the Czech Republic resulted in a confident victory, securing them the top spot in their group. Their final group game will be against Germany on Wednesday.

After a promising start, England came close to taking the lead. Smith Rowe demonstrated some impressive quick passing around the box and finished with a backheeled effort. However, the goal was disallowed due to an offside decision.

Gordon unleashed a promising ball into the box, and Curtis Jones' shot was skillfully defended by Gil Cohen. The team's persistent attacking paid off after fifteen minutes, as Morgan Gibbs-White delivered a brilliant cross from the left, finding Gordon perfectly positioned in the center of the box. The talented Newcastle forward then expertly nodded the ball into the bottom corner, earning a well-deserved reward for their dominant start.

England had control of the game, but Israel came alive in the last 10 minutes of the first half. Dor Turgeman had a chance with his header missing the goal, and Ethane Azoulay had a more promising opportunity in stoppage time. His direct free-kick from the edge of the area was saved by James Trafford.

England had an opportunity to double their lead three minutes after the break when Gibbs-White threaded a great ball through to Noni Madueke, but his effort flew wide.

Daniel Peretz delivered a powerful punch to neutralize the threat posed by Gibbs-White's skillfully executed curling free-kick. Israel responded with a sustained period of pressure, but Karm Jaber's attempt narrowly missed the mark.

In the 68th minute, England secured their second goal courtesy of Smith Rowe, an Arsenal forward whose exceptional finish low into the left corner showcased his prowess.

Cameron Archer came close to scoring the third goal, but Peretz, the goalkeeper, made an impressive save from a difficult angle. Harvey Elliott made a terrific run through the center and found Cole Palmer on the right side, but the Israel defense quickly blocked and cleared his shot. In the final minutes, Yoav Hofmeister made a strong challenge to prevent Jacob Ramsey from taking a shot.
