Gran Turismo Sport is shutting down its online multiplayer modes on January 31, 2024.
The game received mixed reviews mainly due to its focus on online multiplayer, lacking in tracks and cars compared to previous entries.
The shutdown will also remove all DLC on December 1, 2023.
Offline modes will remain accessible. Gran Turismo Sport, a PlayStation 4 exclusive racing game, is scheduled to cease operations on January 31, 2024. Despite not being a numbered entry, it is considered the seventh installment in the renowned Gran Turismo franchise. While previous Gran Turismo games garnered widespread praise and became top-selling titles on PlayStation, Gran Turismo Sport received a more polarizing reception upon its initial release.
The mixed reviews for Gran Turismo Sport were mainly due to its heavy focus on online multiplayer. While some sources enjoyed the online multiplayer modes, others were disappointed with the lack of tracks and cars compared to previous games in the series. Unfortunately, for those who enjoy Gran Turismo Sport's online modes, they will be shutting down on January 31, 2024. Before the online shutdown, all DLC will be removed on December 1, 2023. The online modes affected by the shutdown will include Community, Open Lobby, and the flagship Sport Mode. Additionally, community creations will no longer be accessible after the shutdown. However, the offline modes of Gran Turismo Sport will still be available, and users can still re-download any previously purchased DLC.
When is Gran Turismo Sport Online Shutting Down?
January 31, 2024
The closure of Sony's online features for Gran Turismo Sport will render certain trophies unattainable starting from January 31. Players aspiring to achieve the coveted Gran Turismo Sport Platinum trophy should prioritize playing the game as soon as possible to ensure complete completion before the removal date.
Although it may not occur for many years, Gran Turismo 7, the successor to Gran Turismo Sport, could face a similar fate. Gran Turismo 7 received highly positive reviews upon its initial launch last year, particularly for its cutting-edge PS5 version. However, the game has also faced criticism, mainly centered around its always-online requirement. If the game's servers were to ever shut down, it would render Gran Turismo 7 unplayable unless an update allowing offline play is implemented.
Gran Turismo Sport is out now for PS4.
