Emma Stone was determined to marry Dave McCary, despite facing a black eye just days before the wedding. In a recent interview on the "SmartLess" podcast, Stone, 35, shared that she had accidentally gotten a black eye when the handle of a refrigerator broke off while she was opening it.

During the episode, the La La Land star humorously listed off various injuries she's incurred over the years, but quipped "that's where it stops" after revealing a mishap during her wedding week. When podcast cohost Sean Hayes recommended that Stone wear a helmet, she playfully responded, "I need a helmet and some serious therapy."

Stone and McCary, 38, got married in September 2020 after postponing their original wedding date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The couple first met in December 2016 when Stone was hosting Saturday Night Live and McCary directed her in a sketch called "Wells for Boys."

Stone said on Monday that she met him there, referring to the variety series where McCary worked from 2013 to 2018, and added that they had a lot of mutual friends. When Stone hosted SNL earlier this month and joined the five-timers club, she made sure to give a special shout-out to her husband during her monologue.

"I have created countless memories and made many friends here, and I even met my husband at SNL," Stone excitedly shared. "I know he's not comfortable in front of the camera and he's not a performer, but this is a very special night for us. I would really appreciate it if the cameras could capture him, if possible."

However, rather than focusing on McCary, the cameras showed a serious Lorne Michaels, the long-time showrunner of SNL. "I love you so much, honey," Stone joked before blowing a kiss to the 79-year-old Michaels.

Since 2017, Stone and McCary have kept their relationship mostly private, but they have shared some glimpses of their romance over the years. In December 2019, McCary announced their engagement by posting a picture on Instagram of the two of them, with Stone showing off her engagement ring. The caption simply included a pink heart emoji.
