Another movie about the legendary music icon, Elvis Presley, is currently in production following the success of last year's film. However, it appears that his estate is not pleased with this development. The 2022 biopic, directed by Baz Luhrmann, had the cooperation of the Presley family. On the other hand, the upcoming film titled "Priscilla," set to be released in October and directed by Sofia Coppola, did not have the same level of involvement from the Presley family. Starring Jacob Elordi as Elvis Presley and Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla Presley, the movie is based on Priscilla's 1985 book, "Elvis and Me."
Priscilla, 78, expressed her anticipation for the film, which features Succession's Dagmara Dominczyk, stating that she is excited to see how Sofia Coppola, a masterful director, interprets her book. Priscilla has always admired Coppola's work and believes that the movie will take viewers on an emotional journey. Priscilla and Elvis got married in 1967 while he was serving in Germany. They welcomed their only child, Lisa Marie, in 1968, but their marriage ended in 1972, with the divorce being finalized the following year. (Lisa Marie passed away in January at the age of 54.)
Priscilla remained involved with Elvis Presley Enterprises even after her separation from Elvis and his subsequent passing in 1977. However, after Lisa Marie's death, Priscilla contested her daughter's will, which had a 2016 amendment replacing Priscilla as the trustee with Lisa Marie's eldest children, Riley Keough and the late Benjamin Keough.
Priscilla recently announced that the family has resolved any uncertainties regarding the estate. According to a source in May, Riley and Priscilla have found peace in their relationship following the highly stressful situation involving Lisa Marie's trust and estate. After much negotiation, they have reached a mutual agreement that brings them both happiness.
Lisa Marie's excitement for the success of the movie Elvis was evident before her passing. She expressed her admiration for Austin Butler's portrayal of her father and praised his ability to capture his essence. Lisa Marie even had the opportunity to attend the Golden Globes with Butler, where he won the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama.
In a June 2022 interview with Good Morning America, Priscilla expressed her admiration for the film, describing it as "perfection." She emphasized that the movie truly captured the essence of who Elvis was, his ambitions, and his aspirations.
