Elizabeth Olsen Teases Major Transformation for Scarlet Witch in Upcoming MCU Project

Elizabeth Olsen, the talented actor behind Scarlet Witch, unveils her exciting vision for the future of her character after a decade-long portrayal Fans are in for a treat as Olsen shares her incredible ideas to take Scarlet Witch to new heights!

Elizabeth Olsen has openly expressed that she doesn't miss playing Wanda, however, if she were to reprise her role as Scarlet Witch, there is something she would be thrilled to delve into.

Since 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Olsen has portrayed Wanda Maximoff, but the character has only recently been given the opportunity to fully showcase her abilities. Previous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films have demonstrated her telekinesis but have barely touched upon her reality-altering capabilities as depicted in the comics. This changed with the release of Disney Plus' limited series, WandaVision. Consumed by grief following Vision's (Paul Bettany) demise, Wanda constructs an illusionary realm where she and her android husband reside in a charming sitcom universe. Subsequently, Wanda's powers have been further explored in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which has even laid the foundation for a potential second season of WandaVision. Yet, there remains unexplored territory for her character to develop.

Wanda, in Marvel canon, is portrayed as Magento's daughter, not the product of Hydra's experimentation. Olsen is aware of this and is prepared to delve into Wanda's destiny as a formidable mutant. "I am genuinely determined to unravel the mystery surrounding mutants," Olsen confessed during a Scarlet Witch News panel. While acknowledging her lack of influence over the matter, she expressed her desire to extensively explore the world of X-Men.

Mutants were previously excluded from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) because of the separate ownership of the X-Men films by Fox. As a result, characters like Wanda and Pietro were portrayed as abnormal individuals rather than mutants, even though their true heritage is tied to their mutant father, giving them exceptional powers. The MCU films removed the connection between Wanda and her mutant lineage, including the morally ambiguous Magneto as their patriarch.

However, since Disney's acquisition of Fox, mutants are likely to be introduced into the MCU. The upcoming film Deadpool 3, now under the Disney umbrella, has even included Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, a beloved character from the X-Men franchise. This inclusion, with Wolverine donning his iconic yellow and blue suit, is a significant step towards integrating the X-Men into the MCU canon as they should be.

Additionally, Disney is set to release a continuation of the X-Men animated series, titled X-Men '97. While details about the future of mutants in the MCU remain undisclosed, the silence from the creative team suggests that they may be planning something substantial and important for their introduction.

Wanda has introduced a unique variation of the House of M plotline from the comics, which has strengthened her realization of being one of the mightiest mutants in Marvel. Additionally, it is high time for the resurrection of Pietro, who departed prematurely. The multiverse grants a tremendous opportunity for the X-Men to rise and display their brilliance.
