The Other Path to Mohgwyn Palace

Updated August 23rd, 2023: Players can now reach Mohgwyn Palace in Elden Ring without needing to complete White-Faced Varre's questline. As they progress through the game, they will come across the Consecrated Snowfields - an area with limited visibility. By searching through this area, players have the chance to stumble upon a mysterious portal that leads directly to Mohgwyn Palace. To demonstrate this alternative route, a video guide has been added to showcase how players can effortlessly reach Mohgwyn Palace by foot.

White-Faced Varre

After starting the game, players can easily find the hidden path to Mohgwyn Palace. Upon leaving the tutorial area, players will come across an intriguing NPC named "White-Faced Varre." This character provides helpful guidance on the path to Stormveil Castle and the importance of the Guidance of Grace.

Once players defeat Godrick the Grafted and visit Two-Fingers at Roundtable Hold, returning to Varre's original location at "The First Step" Site of Lost Grace will reveal his absence, but a brief message left behind hints that he can be found at the Rose Church.

The Rose Church

The Rose Church, an abandoned structure located in the swamps of Liurna of the Lakes, is a haunting sight with its apparent blood-filled interior. Varre, found outside the church, presents Elden Ring players with a macabre yet valuable item known as the Festering Bloody Fingers. These fingers can be used to invade the realms of other players, with the aim of eliminating them for precious runes and Rune Arcs. To progress Varre's storyline, the player must utilize the fingers at least three times.

Once the player has completed three invasions, regardless of success or failure, they are to return to Varre. At that point, Varre will extend an offer to anoint the player as a "knight to serve Luminary Mohg, the Lord of Blood, and establish a new dynasty." Additionally, Varre assigns a further task to soak a cloth named the "Lord of Blood's Favor" in the blood of a Finger Maiden.

The Church of Inhibition & Chapel of Anticipation

The Church of Inhibition, located in the North-East of Liurna of the Lakes, houses the body of a Finger Maiden. Using her blood, players can fulfill Varre's request by soaking the favor. This method is the simpler of the two described, as it only requires traveling across the region where the Rose Church is located.

Another option is for players to go to the Four Belfries in the west of Liurna of the Lakes. By activating the portal beneath the second Belfry, players can return to the Chapel of Anticipation from the beginning of the game. After seeking revenge on the Grafted Scion, players can go back to the Chapel where they initially entered the game and soak the cloth using the Maiden's corpse.

After immersing the fabric and returning to Varre, depleting all of his dialogue will result in him granting the player the Pureblood Knight's Medal, an item accessible in the inventory that enables teleportation to Mohgwyn Palace.

Travelling to Mohgwyn Palace is not limited to using the Pureblood Knight's Medal. An alternative way involves discovering a concealed portal in the Consecrated Snowfields. This portal is situated in the Northwestern region of the Yelough Anix Tunnel. Upon finding it, players will be transported to Mohgwyn Palace, hidden underneath the enchanting Caelid.
