Drew Carey shared in an interview with People that he has found closure after the tragic murder of his ex-fiancée Amie Harwick. He mentioned that ever since the final sentencing, it feels like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders. Carey expressed that the whole process is now behind him, allowing everyone involved to finally move forward. He emphasized that he can now let go of the past and focus on the present, feeling a sense of relief from the situation.
The host of The Price is Right shared that even though that chapter of his life is in the past, he will always hold a special place in his heart for Harwick. He still keeps photos of her in his house and dressing room for the game show.
He mentioned, "She's always with me. Sometimes when I'm pondering things, it feels like I can hear her voice guiding me and offering insights. It's actually quite comforting."
The couple first revealed their relationship in June 2017. They got engaged in the following year but unfortunately ended their relationship before getting married.
Sadly, Harwick's life was cut short when she was murdered in February 2020.
The L.A. police department received a radio call at 1:16 a.m. reporting a woman screaming. When officers reached the scene, a male roommate informed them that Harwick was being attacked inside her home. He mentioned that he had climbed over a wall and sought help from nearby houses.
Police discovered Harwick unresponsive on the ground beneath a third-story balcony at her Hollywood Hills residence. She was severely injured and was rushed to the hospital, where she tragically passed away at the age of 38.

Gareth Pursehouse, Harwick's ex-boyfriend, was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree murder. Before her death, Harwick had obtained two restraining orders against him.
Following Harwick's death, Carey opened up about their relationship. He expressed, "Amie and I shared a love that many people are fortunate to experience once in a lifetime." Carey described Harwick as a positive influence in the world, a strong advocate for women, and dedicated to her work as a therapist. He also mentioned feeling overwhelmed with grief and requested privacy for himself and those who cared for Amie as they navigate through this tragic situation.
Last September, Pursehouse was found guilty of Harwick's murder and in December 2023, he received a life sentence in prison with no chance of parole.
Carey has mentioned that he has been attempting to forgive Pursehouse for what he did over the years.
After Amie's murder, I needed to take a week off," he shared in April 2020 during an appearance. "I was really struggling to cope, and on my first day back hosting The Price is Right, we taped the high school show for 'Kids Week'. It was tough coming back, especially since everyone knew about what had happened to me. During the break, I took the opportunity to speak with these kids."
During the conversation, he explained, "I wanted to share with them how I was able to forgive the man who took Amie's life. It wasn't easy, but I knew I had to do it. This man had a troubled past, he was mentally ill and had suffered abuse as a child. It's important to show compassion and forgiveness, even in difficult situations. Forgiveness doesn't mean you have to forget or befriend those who have wronged you."
