Who knew that writing “I Will Always Love You” isn’t the most heartbreaking thing Dolly Parton’s ever done?
Parton, who is 77 years old, disclosed that she has been approached multiple times to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show but has declined each offer. As a result, America has been denied a performance that would undoubtedly have been unforgettable.
Despite Parton's undeniable talent and success, it is astonishing to think that she believes there are things she cannot accomplish or that she is not "worthy" enough to perform at the Super Bowl. Nonetheless, it is comforting to know that even legendary figures like her face moments of self-doubt. As exemplified by her reaction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination, Parton remains incredibly humble. She initially declined the honor because she did not believe she was deserving of it.
"I am both flattered and grateful for the nomination, but I don't believe I have earned the right," she stated in a social media post shared in March 2022. "I do not wish for votes to be divided because of me, so I respectfully decline."
However, later on, Parton had a change of heart and was officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2022. During her acceptance speech, she expressed, "This is an incredibly special night for me. Many of you may recall that when I was initially informed about my induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I didn't feel like I had accomplished enough to deserve such an honor. It took time for me to grasp that it goes beyond personal achievements. Nevertheless, I am deeply honored and profoundly proud to be here tonight."
She also mentioned that the recognition had motivated her to create her own rock album in the hopes of eventually deserving her place in the prestigious Hall of Fame. True to her word, Parton fulfilled her promise with the release of Rockstar on Friday, November 17, drawing inspiration from rock music. This exceptional album brings together some of the industry's greatest icons, such as Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Stevie Nicks, Debbie Harry, and many others.
