Following his Stage IV colorectal cancer diagnosis, Utah resident LeGrand "LG" Gold compiled a list of goals he aspired to accomplish during his remaining time. Meeting Dolly Parton secured the seventh spot on "LGs List of Living," which he inscribed in black marker on a napkin.
The country legend, Dolly Parton, called LG and spoke to him and his wife just before Christmas, making their wish come true. During the call, Parton expressed her gratitude for LG's longtime fandom and thanked him for his support. LG's wife, Alice, shared a video of the heartwarming conversation on social media.
"Its been my honor too," Gold replied with a big smile on his face.
He told Parton that shes been a huge help - "especially these last few years."
Gold informed KSL, a CNN affiliate, that his medical team had informed him that the chemotherapy and radiation treatment had ceased to be effective. They recommended that he return home to spend time with his family.
Alice mentioned to Parton that her husband has been a lifelong fan of her music. She also shared that their family holds season passes to her Dollywood amusement park and that all three of their children have received books from Parton's Imagination Library program.
"I am so grateful to be able to share this journey with you in this lifetime," Parton expressed during the call. "It brings me joy to know that my music, words, and actions have made a positive impact on your life. Thank you for honoring me with that, it means a lot."
In December 2022, Alice shared the "List of Living" on LG's Facebook page.
Alice mentioned that she not not know how Parton found out about the list. This list included meeting Parton, going on an RV trip to the Grand Canyon with their kids, experiencing March Madness, attending a Natalie Merchant concert, and watching "TNT Inside the NBA."
She told CNN that many of their friends had recommended her husband to people and even reached out to politicians in Tennessee at the suggestion of the Nashville mayor's office. She mentioned that a story about her husband by CNN affiliate KSL had gone viral and may have been what caught the attention of Parton's team.
Parton ended the call by telling Gold that "I will always love you."
"I should have sung that," she added, before starting to sing."I will always love you," she sang. "I will always love LG."
