This Streaming Release Could Turn Haunted Mansion Around
: The Haunted Mansion, a family-friendly horror-comedy, will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting from October 4, following its premiere a month and a half ago. In addition, a physical media release is scheduled for later in the month, allowing fans to enjoy it just in time for Halloween. This streaming debut has the potential to significantly improve the disappointing performance of the Haunted Mansion at the box office. The movie faced major obstacles during its theatrical release, including being one of the first major films affected by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. In solidarity with their fellow union members and in their fight for fair compensation, the Haunted Mansion cast declined to promote struck projects. Moreover, it had the unfortunate timing of being released just a week after the highly successful Barbie and Oppenheimer, which continued to dominate the box office.

As a result, the Haunted Mansion box office performance has been deemed a significant failure. Globally, the film has earned $101.3 million, which is a substantial sum. Nevertheless, with a production budget of around $150 million, the movie needed to generate over $300 million in revenue to simply recoup its costs.
Haunted Mansion would face a significant challenge in recovering that sum of money through a streaming release. Nonetheless, Disney+ has previously demonstrated its ability to enhance the success of movies, as exemplified by Encanto. Despite earning a commendable $256 million in theaters last year, this animated film attained widespread acclaim through streaming, chiefly due to the viral popularity of the song "We Don't Talk About Bruno".
